Page 10 SENIOR HOCKEY - By Buck Hockey fans will be treated to some fine senior hockey games in the near future. If the Marathon Mercuries continue to show their fine calibre of play, they can continue to go a long way in Allan Cup playoffs. The present series is tied two games apiece, with the next game slated in Fort William on Tuesday, March 29th and the sixth game back in Terrace Bay on Friday, April Ist. Should a 7th game be necessary, it will be played in Fort William on Sunday, April 3rd. It was quite a reversal of play fromthe Saturday encounter where the Mercuries laced the Beavers 13-2, when the Beavers came back and edged them 4-3 on Sunday. Should the Mercuries win the Thun- der Bay Senior Championship over the Ft.William Beavers, tentative arrangements are being made to have two games of the Western Championships played here in Terrace Bay. The present series is underway in Winnipeg between the Winnipeg Maroons and the Selkirk Fishermen. The Osmar brothers are playing the best hockey of the season in the playoffs and are scoring more goals than you can count. The combination of these two brothers is a definite threat to any team. In another game or so, Winkie Whalen should be in top form and getting his share of goals. MINOR HOCKEY In our local PeeWee House League the semi-final round has started with THE NEWS RED CROSS IS ALWAYS THERE WITH YOUR HELP March 31, 1966 with the Canadiens meeting the Leafs and the Hawks playing the Bruins. This is a best-of-three playoff with the finals being a best of five. We are trying to combine the visit of any one of these with the Boy Scout Father and Son Banquet. Entries have been received from the following com- munities for the Easter Week Bantam Sports Tabloid, which will be held in Terrace Bay on April 12th--I3th and 14th; Geraldton, Manitouwadge, Schreiber, Port Arthur, Red Rock, Winnipeg West Ends and Ter- race Bay. This Sports Tabloid will consist of compe- titions in hockey, bowling, basketball and volley- ball. The tournament is open to all local boys, ages 12 to 14. Purpose of the Tabloid is that there are a number ;of boys in Terrace Ba, wno do not play hockey but who participate in other activities as mentioned and this will give them an equal opportunity to take part in this event. The Winnipeg team will be accompanied by their coach-manager, Mr.Vince Leah, the popular Winni- peg Tribune sports writer. He will also have four mothers travelling with him as chaperones for his team We are definitely in need of billets for these boys and we hate to impose on the people of Terrace Bay; how- ever, we are working out an arrange- ment whereby the billets only provide sleeping accomodations plus one meal aday.
