J.H.Barber, district municipal auditor for the department of highways, wrote requesting Schreiber Road Superintendent be paid hourly rate of $3.00. Payroll records will be adjusted accordingly, coun- cil decided. The Clerk was instructed to write Municipal Loans Assistance Department as early as possible to inquire if the municipality could have a contract signed by March 31, 1966, in regard to the Community Arena artificial ice project, and if it would be possible to come under the act for 25% reduction of two thirds of the loan. Mr.and Mrs.Jack Devon and son Billy of Eganville are visiting Mrs.Devon's sisters, Mrs.M.J.McGrath and her family. Mr.and Mrs.Harry Harnish of Hubbard, N.S., are visiting their daughter and son-in-law Mr.and Mrs. Ken Himes. Mrs Robert Winters is a patient in the Port Arthur General Hospital . Joseph P.Gagaon has returned after a visit in Fort William with his son Boyer Gaganon. George Kouhi was in town Thursday evening with the Northwestern Regional Co-op Library Bookmobile to make the exchange of books. Three units were taken for the public library and one for the high school. Board members who helped with the ex- change were H.M.Ermel, Mrs.W.W.Wilkes, Mrs. George Walsh, Mrs.D'Arcy McGuire, Mrs. W.G. Furlonger, Miss Gwen Hadley and Mrs .Ross Hill. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEMBERS HOLD DINNER Members of the Women's Institute enjoyed a hot turkey dinner in the Mayfair hotel on Wednesday evening with fifteen attending. Grace was said by the oldest member, Mrs. J.D.Bryson. After dinner the group was entertained in Mrs. Jack Corbett's home when there was an exchange of gifts, penny auction was played and contests were held. Prizes were won by Mrs.Bryson and Mrs. Ken Williamson. The president, Mrs.Wesley, provided and served the lunch, assisted by Mrs .Corbett. and Dr.Arthur Lavender, taking part in the services. A History of the Church, prepared originally by Rev. W.Holmes and brought up to date by Mrs. R. (Beth) Macadam was published for the Anniversary . THE NEWS Capt .Allan Nelson visited his father, A.E.Nelson enroute to Cypress for six months tour in an adminis- trative capacity. Tom and Terry Crocket of Winnipeg have been visiting their grandparents, Mr.and Mrs.Harvey S Stevenson. Mrs. A.E.Rigelsford entertained on Jan.,10 to mark her daughter-in-law, Mrs.David Rigelsford's 21st birthday. Mrs.Vic Thorpe of Terrace Bay, an aunt, assisted. On the special cake made for the occasion, was an ornamental key which had been used on Mrs .Rigels- ford's 21st birthday. Att ending the party were Mr.and Mrs .Robin Moore, Mr.and Mrs.Bill Miller, Mr.and Mrs. Thorpe Henry Paske, Mr.and Mrs.Gerry Litt and Fred McColeman--all presenting gifts to the guest of honor . Mrs.Georges Legault of Montreal is visiting her parents, Mr.and Mrs. J.D.Bryson. Mrs.Wesley Miller presided for the January meet- ing of the Women's Institute when plans were made for a membership dinner. Plans were also made for February meeting when Schreiber's New Year baby will be honored with a presentation of gifts. Mrs.Alvin Slater gave a paper on Home Economics, titled Beef Beyond Be- lief. Following the meeting Mrs.Miller ran a game of Penny Auction and lunch was served by Mrs . Jack Corbett's committee. ANNUAL MEETING HELD BY UNITED CHURCH The annual Congregational meeting of St. Andrew's United Church, Schreiber, was held on Sunday evening, January 23rd, beginning with a Pot-Luck Supper at 6.30. Reports from all organ- izations were printed and adopted by the meeting. Five new members of the Committee of Stewards were elected; Bill Tripp, Bill Hawke, Peter Vander- kam, Don Brown and Michael Smilsky. Alan Nelson was re-elected to the Committee of Stewards. Two new neembers of the Board of Session were elected-- James Bromley and Barry Harper. The Missionary and Maintenance Fund of the United Church received $1718.00 from St.Andrew's Church in 1965 which was $68 above the objective. The Memorial Monse Fund, which was started at the end of |964, now stands at $1,333. A Budget of $8,850. for local expenses in 1966 was accepted by the meeting. Twenty-one members were received into the Church in 1965, twelve by profession of faith and nine by transfer from other churches. Forty-six persons were removed from the membership roll by transfer or for other reasons. Most of these were non-resident members. A highlight of the year was the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of St.Andrew's Church. Special Services were held in October with two former ministers, Rev. William Holmes (see bottom col .1)
