Dedication of the underpass was conducted by Rev. R.J.S.Inshaw, assisted by Rev.J.M.Cano and Rev. D.F.Muldrew. Mr.Inshaw prayed that the wider contact offered by the new underpass between the divided town would symbolize and engender closer spiritual communication between the people in it. Reeve Harness said the subway was a dream realized by Schreiber with the Board of Transport, the Dept.of Highways and the Canadian Pacific Railway all contributing to ease the burden on the town. Mr .Looney said since he had worked here with the CPR he well understood the need for an under- pass and rejoiced with the townspeople. C.P.R. Superintendent V .E.Everitt said that, apart from the safety considerations, the subway was also of practical value to the CPR since, until its construc- tion the CPR had to frequently permit installation of temporary crossings through their railway yards to allow targe vehicles to pass to the south side of town.
