HELP THE KINSMEN CLUB OF SCHREIBER HELP YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY GOLF NEWS AND TIP Now that the new, redesigned score cards are available at the Club' House everyone can acquaint themselves with the very important local rules which, to date, have often been flagrantly abused. We would like to suggest that all golfers using the local Course read the rules printed on this card and, above all, abide by them. Because of the many scars visible everywhere on our fairways due to unreplaced divots the greens superintendent is becoming quite worried. Replac- a divot is a MUST on any golf course and much more urgent on a new course. Every time you replace a divot you are actually maintaining the course. The second rul on your card concerns beginners. Mind you, beginners are as welcome as anyone on the course: however, everyone will enjoy the game much more if slower players will permit a faster mov- ing group to pass through and thus avoid delaying anyone's game. The third rule deals with a lost ball. If you are going to look for it wave through immediately any- one on the tee. Number seven rule prohibits children accompany- ing golfers on the course. It is definitely too hazard ous. These are only a few of the local rules and are mentioned due to their importance. Golf Tip of the week: Dri ving within yourself Undoubtedly the best advice for the tee shot is not to swing too hard. Exactly how hard one should swing on his drives depends on natural strength and sense of timing. Few persons can resist the tempta- tion to slug a tee shot on a par-five hole but the results are not worth the effort. Slugging forces you to exceed your swing capabilities--forces you out of character, so to speak, and the distance you might get is just'not worth the harm you will pro- bably do té your timing. Timing is everything in golf. The hands must be timed with the hips and you can't speed up hand action without also speed- ing up the hip turn. Swinging harder than normal makes this timing impossible and so defeats its own purpose, because distance is the direct result of this timing and not, as most people think, the re- sult of a h arder swing.
