Rescue demonstration "Photo by 1.McCuaig * ANNUAL DINNER AND INSPECTION HELD HERE On Wednesday evening the Schreiber Combined Division #337, St.John Ambulance held a dinner in St.John's Church hall honoring the official visit of the inspecting officers from Provincial headquarters, Toronto--Lieut .Col .Lawler Brown, Provincial Supt. (a) and Mrs.Margaret Manley, Reg.N., Provincial Nursing Officer. Division Superintendent Mrs.Dorothy Rummery was Toastmistress with Padre R.J.S.Inshaw offering Grace The Toast to the Queen was given by John Kender-: dine and the toast to the Order of St.John by Mrs. Saima Willoughby. St.John Provincial Staff Officer Mr .Fred Farwell, ably responded to the latter. Reeve F.V.Harness offered the congratulations of the town on the service offered by St.John Ambulancd. H.Eaton, assistant superintendent, Schreiber Railway Division, warmly commended members on their promp and efficient assistance at the time of the train wreck near here. Divisional officer Charles Lavigne proposed a vote of thanks to the ladies who provided the meal and to accompanist Miss Diane Rymmery . Following dinner the tenth annual inspection was held in the Town Hall after which to demonstrations were presented by the bri gade with Mrs.Rummery explaining the various moves. The ambulance members demonstrated rescue work for a supposed drowning victim, the accident occur- ring a mile in from a highway. Chuck Lavigne plung ed into the water and pulled the victim (played by his son Dennis) to shore where Don Almos immediatel started the Sylvester method of artificial respiration while Chuck and Arnold Stortini loosened his cloth- ing and, checking for further injury, found a frac- tured leg. Meanwhile Ed Zielke, after clearing a space for the men to work in went to cut two poles from which, with the aid of the men's jackets, an efficient stretcher was made. (Continued ......)
