Chaplain of the Naval Re- serve, Reg. T.G.Husser spoke of the new flag as a fitting symbol of our. past and representative of G@ new coming of age. Chairman of the Flag-Raising Committee, Coun- cillor W.E.Cavanaugh informed those present this was the third Canadian flag under which he had lived, and how proud and thankful he was to have been spared to witness this historic day. Councillor Cavanaugh continued that he thought he had witnessed everything in the line of progress in his 'lifetime, but with the revolution taking place today in ed i A '65 Renault It Seems... He admonished them, however, to be alert to what was right and wrong, and to let their voices be heard. He exhorted them with all sincerity to hold high this wonderful new Maple Leaf Flag and, cherishing it always, understand it stands for this wonderful land A special guest of the occasion was Mayor Ernest Reed of Fort William who paid his personal tribute to the people of this community for the organization and support accorded the Flag Raising Cdremony. This was indeed an act of loyalty. He felt the chifd-- ren present would soon learn to respect, honor and revere this Flag, having played a significant part in the ceremony. Referring to the suggestion of a divided country he quoted a story of Abraham Lin- coln which closed by stating 'This nation will not be divided' and he too, felt this statement would always Phone 3327 Mayor Reed closed by say- ing though we shed a tear at the lowering of the old flag, still all joined in to cheer at the raising of the new for this Land, our C mada, whic we love so much.
