Members of the recently organized group committee-- to assist scout work in Schreiber:- Frt. Mrs.D. Souliere Rego Nagasaka, treasurer, J.R.Smith chairman; Back, J.B.Ridsdale, Mrs.George Riley. The Boy Scouts, under direction of Bruce Costall, will stage a mammoth bottle drive on January 2nd. Funds are sorely needed to carry on the work and the public is urged to save for the collection. Special fees have been agreed on by the Curling Club for student curlers and associate members. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT IN HIGH SCHOOL e United Church Sunday School is presenting a Christmas pageant in the High School Auditorium on December |7 at 7 p.m. The public is cordially in- vited to attend and it is hoped there will be a good audience to encourage both teachers and actors who have spent much time in practice and perfecting the required costumes. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE PREPARES HAMPERS Mrs. Wesley Miller presided at the Decemb er 8th meeting of the Women's Institute when roll call was answered by donations of food for a hamper or toys or candy for the Children's Hospital in Smith Falls. Mrs. Dwight Marshall was welcomed as a new member and a donation was made to the Save The Children's Fund. Mrs.Tom Whitton gave a detailed report on the area W.1.Convention. Christmas Cheer parcels were planned and a committee appoint- ed to distribute them. The New Year's baby cup will be ordered for the January meeting when there will be a potluck supper. The roll call will be answered by describing " a new product | have used and liked." Silver commemoration spoons were sold. Valerie Rigelsford celebrated her 6th birthday on Dec.12th with the help of Linda and Diane Forbes (cousins from Terrace Bay), Pam Winters, Barbara, Barry and Pam Glad, Vicky and Arlene Krause, Linda Lidkea helped Mrs.Rigelsford with games. The Ontario Municipal Board advised council to make formal application, asking for per- mission to issue $30,000 debenture, in connection with the Centennial Project. Waterworks accounts $371.12 and general accounts of $ 3,413.92 were passed for payment. The police report for November was read and it was reported that waterworks debentures are ready for sale at $1,000 plus accrued interest. It was decided to have the Police Chief and Fire Chief pay their own phone bills and then submit to the town for re-imbursement. Mr .Guina agreed to prepare the brief on railway run-throughs to be pre sented from Schreiber to the Industrial Inquiries Commission. After some discussion it was decided that in future Ambulance drivers shall keep track of actual time on all trips and, in case of outsiders using the ambulance a $2.00 per hour driver's fee will be included in the fee for use of same. This does NOT refer to residents. It was pointed out a driver frequently forfeits his day off to drive the ambulance and, though he willingly donates to community welfare, he does not feel committed to offer it to strangers. Terrace Bay Hospital will be requested to release our ambulance as soon as possible after delivery of patient. Tax arrears and water arrears were again given lengthy consideration. STUDY ON MISSION FIELDS PRESENTED Mrs.Frank Fummerton presented a study of mission fields in Brazil and Trinidad at the regular December meeting of the United Church Women, with Mrs. Russell Macadam, Mrs.Oscar Niemi and Mrs. Bill Thrower taking part. Donations were made to the local church board and to the John Milton Society for the Blind. The church calendars may now be bought from Mrs. R.G. Macadam. The president urged all convenors to have J. annual reports handed in as soon as possible. It was decided to have a supper prior to the Jan- vary meeting and following the business agenda, hold a party as belated Christmas celebration. After the meeting Mrs. Beth Macadam showed a film on cancer as related to smoking. Mrs.T.P.Whent presided for the meeting and Mrs. Bill Whent was in charge of the devotional period. Mrs Richard (aunt Susy) Spicer, is in in Terrace i Bay Hospital . Jack Rattray and Jack Rummery are patients in McKellar Hospital. Mrs.Russell (Pidge) Weaver is in Port Arthur General Hospital . K.S.Holmes will spend the winter months in Point : Claire, Quebec with Mr.and Mrs.R.M. Scotten-- | his daughter. Fred Laine and Emil Salmi of Kaministiquia were i the guests of Mr.and Mrs.Oscar Laine last week.
