The Zenith is now known as the Zenmac and John is in charge of crew engaged in re-opening the property, northwest of Schreiber. Now the men go in by car, truck or tractor but when Eddie, with Ed. MacKay of Rossport, and others, set out for it from Rossport, it was on foot and in snow and bitter weather. The gang of eight- een cut a trail of about thirteen miles in from Selim, with almost the same number of lakes and ponds. Eddie says the mine, he thinks, must have been worked in the 1880's for a derrick and bucket were still there. The gang were in a race against the Spring b reak up to get the ore out to Selim by sleighs were it would be loaded on scows, and they cobbed it in cotton bags of 70 to 80 pounds. Frank Dampier was the powder monkey then and Tommy McCuaig the camp cookee. In 1902 both Eddie and Tommy entered the CPR service as train men--having had quite enough of bush work in any form. LOCAL STORE MAKES IMPROVEMENTS Caccamo"s Limited in Terrace Bay have recently install ed some bright new tile in their store. If could be dangerous to give a three or four-year-old city youngster a sled or wagon which he would use on the sloping side drive of his home. Many young children have died when they have slid across the sidewaik into tha path of avehicle. A gift for the child in hospital should be carefully chosen, with the sanction of his doctor or nurse. Dolls and soft cuddly toys would probably be permitted but any kind of noise maker or foot!
