THE POLICE CONCERNED OVER B-B GUNS Township Police are very concerned over the use (or misuse) of B-B guns within the township limits. Thirty-seven complaints have been received by them in the past month. Animals have been shot at and, much more serious, a child was shot at. Under the criminal code no person fourteen years of age and under is allowed to possess a gun. ALL persons over that age who do own a gun must regis- ter such ownership with the local police. A town by-law states that no firearms can be fired within a radius of three miles from the centre of the town. Anyone found violating any of these regula- tions will be charged and the gun confiscated. RASH OF VANDALISM CONCERNS POLICE One youth received a suspended sentence and and three others were placed on probation by Judge Creighton when they appeared before him on Friday, November 6th, charged under section 281 of the Criminal Code (theft of a motor vehicle). Local law enforcement officers state that a number of juveniles have been involved in a variety of mid- demeanors over the past few weeks. They are reluc- tant to brand these boys as criminals by laying charges and are hoping that a word of warning to both parents and offenders will ensure that this does not become necessary. They are attempting to establish a "local level disciplinary action" which would keep juven- ile offenders from having a registered criminal offense against their names. Parents of those involved, and all others, are urged by the Police to make sure they know where their children are at all times and what they are doing. Discipline in the home may avert the need for police action. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Terrace Bay Police ask that organizations planning events advise them forty-eight hours before such events are held so that they can watch over parked vehicles.
