SCHREIBER -- Scholarships and awards amounting to $1,J75 were presented to students ot Schreiber High School at com- mencement exercises held in the school. Top award, the Dominion - Provincial Type A bursary of $500 was awarded to Louise McGoey. Chairman O. B. Fasan, prin- cipal of the school, stated the attendance during the year was ever the top again with 97 per cent average daily. He explain- ed changes in the curriculum which will be a great advant- age to students starting grade _IX, and also made mention of the new method of teaching mathematics. Mr. Fasan thanked the school board for co-operation, the local clubs and others for the sub- stantial awards. He introduced the staff, four of whom are new this year. and also paid tribute to last year's teachers for their dedication to their work. AWARDS PRESENTED WERE: The Canadian Legion Branch 109. Schreiber scholarship $100 for top grade 12 student was presented by J. Sawyer to Jim LeSauvage. Dominion-Provincial Type A bursary $100 was won by Jim LeSauvage and Marlene Jarva. Grade 13 awards: Schreiber Lions Club scholarship $100 pre- sented by A. Speziale to Cheryl Everitt. Schreiber High School Home and School Association scholar- ship $75 presented by Mrs. W. Cocks to Chery! Everitt. Schreiber High School board bursary scholarship $100 pre- sented by L. R, MecCuaig to Diane Peterson. Schreiber Catholic Women's League bursary scholarship $100 presented by Mrs. S. Kusik to Diane Peterson. Knights of Columbus scholar- ship $100 presented by S. Chi- coine to, Louise McGoey. REPORT ON COURSE Dominic Pellagrino and Anna Fummerton gave a report on the athletic leadership course they attended in the summer at Lake Couchiching. Secondary school honor gra- duation diplomas were present- ed to Cheryl Everitt, Louise McGoey, Diane Peterson, Wil- liam Scott, John Stortini. The girls choir accompaniea by Mrs. Ross Hill and under direction of Diane Rummery sang several numbers during the program. The evening ended with the graduation ball and lunch served by the home and school asso- ciation. Invocation was given by Rev. Fraser Muldrew, the municipa- lity greetings by Reeve F. V. Harness and the valedictory by Jim LeSauvage. Miss E. Dorothy nurse in December 1940. A year later she became a head nurse and in 1947 Assistant Director of Nursing. On leave of absence in 1950 she took a post graduate course at McGill University in Administration in Schools of Nursing. She was appointed Director of Nursing on Aug.1,/64. Her father was the late T. Arnot of Schreiber. mother, at the age of eighty-three was the oldest resident of Schreiber at the time of her death last year at The Wellesley. A brother, T.A. Arnot lives at London, Ontario and a married sister resides in Montreal . DELEGATE APPOINTED To ARLA CONVENTION Mrs. T., Whitton was anpointed delegate to the area convention to be held the Women's Institute , at their regular meet- ing on September 14th.
