AWARDS NIGHT CONCLUDES SUMMER PROGRAMME Concluding the Recreation programs held this summer at the playground and swimming pool, Awards Night was held Friday evening in the Highschool Auditorium. Recreation Director Ken Ward welcomed the capacity crowd of award-winning chil- dren and their families, before introducing his summer staff: Swi m Instructor Marvin Steen, Assistant Wendy Duncan, Life- guard Instructors Marilyn Marsh and Gary Gresdal, Playground Supervisor Ainsley Middaugh and Leaders Janice McInnes and Darlene Larson. Tremendous applause greeting the staff, termed by Mr.Ward, 'a great summer staff". Senior members of the playground opened the program with the amusing 'Bear Song' led by Susan McInnes, Rachel St.Louis, Laura Hartman, Mary Pat McLeod and Sandy Synishin. Minor Baseball Champions in the American League, Little Lea- gue and Pony League were each presented with crests by their Coaches as Mr.Ward gratefully acknowledged the work of the coaches and men who had assisted in transporting the players to various towns for swimming as well as baseball. Coach Keith Koski awarded crests to his team, the champions in the American League: Tim Burnside, Ken Hanley, Mark Santerre, J.Ojavee, Carl Boutilier, D'Arcy Ward, Jim Sernesky, Gord Leclair, Pat- rick Heenan, Paul Maleshewski, Dan Sernesky, Glen Chepelsky and Mark Dashkewytch. Jim Mikus also coached this team. Little League Champions Marvin Koski, Reid Boutilier, Ken Turner, Hugh Geary, Samuel Harris, Larry Braun, Mike Sernesky, David Daniels, Mike Slattery, Wally Fisher, Curtis Desrosiers, Jim Ollen-Bittle, Glen Kujbida and Tom Schock who had been soached by Paul Pluta and Eugene Coss received their crests from Mr .Coss . The Pony League Champions were Jim Mikus, Peter Heenan, ticky Dorman, Mike Brend, Rob McKechnie, Alvin LeBlanc, Bob Mallais, Greg Boudreau, Charlie Daley, Ted Petrus, Ken Kennedy and Mike LeBlanc. Their coaches had been Don Farrow and Gary Crandlemire. Turning to the very young swimmers,. those gaining their very first tests, the Tadpoles were called upon to receive their crests from Instructors. A well executed tumbling routing and pyramid was presented by 'he senior boys and girls of the Playground under Janice Mclnnes. Royal Life Saving classes awards went to: Elementary Certifica- tes - Bob and Bill Hiller, Beth and Aileen and Ted Ross, Lorne and Mary Bourke, Ellen Boudreau, Maurice Cadieux, Susan Pluta, Rosemary Pineault. Junior Artificial Respiration class certificates were awarded to: Clara Braun, Murray Kydd, Shirley and Carol Zielke, Joanne Stevens, Alan Turner, Linda Nesbitt, Jane Cole- borne, Molly Harris, Terry Delaronde, Michael LeBlanc, Sandy Synishin, Marcia Hamilton. Intermediate Certificates were pre sented to: Alvin LeBlanc, Michael LeBlanc, Sandy Synishin, Gary Gresdal, Claire Belliveau, Nadine MacLeod, Sharon St.Louis, Marguerite Mousseau and Norma Chesley. Royal Life Bronze Medallions went to: Jane Colborne, Terry Delaronde, Marcia Hamilton, Molly Harris, Claire Belliveau, Marquerite Mc' sseau, Alvin LeBlanc, Norma Chesley. Bars to the Bronze Medallions were presented to: David Falzetta No.1, Terry Delaronde No.1, Marcia Hamilton No.1, Marilyn Marsh No.3, Wendy Duncan No.1, and Marvin Steen No.3. The Award of Merit was earned by Marilyn Marsh with the bars to these Awards earned by Marvin Steen No.1 and Wendy Duncan No.2. Senior Artificial Respiration certificates went to Marilyn Marsh, Wendy Duncan and Marvin Steen. Royal Life Instructor's certifi- cates to Wendy Duncan and Marvin Steen and Senior Artificial Res- piration Instructor to Marvin Steen. Another interlude was provided by the Jr.Playground with a short skit "The King With the Terrible Temper." The case included Mat- thew St.Louis, Ruth Falzetta, Laurie Schritt, Mary L.Edmunds, David Edmunds, Peter Falzetta and the chorus of accompanying sounds were provided by the younger children four to seven. First, second and third place winners in the North Shore and local Swim Meets were next on the program to receive their indi- - vidually earned crests and trophies for points champions . A chorus of the Senior Playground children returned to the stage 'for a selection of songs and rounds. Mr .Ward explained the lengthy requirements demanded by the Playground specifications to pass each phase of the physical fitness tests, the work and edurance involved. Receiving the first b ar were Roddy Larson, Bevan Schritt and Laura Hartman. First and second bars went to Gordon McMillan. First and second bars and crests were earned by Susan McInnes, Linda Helmink, David Fal- zetta, Jim Corri gan, Sandy Synishin, Mary P.MacLeod, Lorraine Belliveau, Glen Kujbida, Brenda Chapman and Donna Chapman. Highlighting the playground program for the summer, Champions are chosen each year on the basis of attendance, co-operation and advancement. Recipients of these prizes were:- Jr.Girl, Mary L. Edmunf@.Jr .Boy, John Corrigan, Sr.Girl, Lorraine Belliveau, Sree Boy, "Phage The4hdl item on the agenda was presentation of the Tommy Duriez Memorial Trophy, presented by Mrs.Henry Duriez and awardéd' to Paul Dakin. Paul was chosen by the staff for his at- tendancé, co-operation, advancement and awards.
