THE NEWS ART CLUB NEWS Another successful weekend ceurse in Art was sponsored by the Terrace Bay Art Club May 22=24th in the Recreation Centre with Mr. John E.B. Watson of Toronto instructing. Mr. Watson was most en- couraging, noting the group - representative of the North Shore - was very serious about their work, a factor often lost in clubs. Friday evening Mr. Watson analyzed one painting submitted by each of the group; Helen Schach of Beardmore, Mary Johnson of Schreiber, Lorna Brown of Red Rock, Ann MacDonald of Marathon and from Terrace Bay Gertrude Boyd, Shirley Hersey, Susan Tao, Win McKechnie, Mary Middaugh, Helen Far- rell, Sadie Gaulin and Glenna MacDonald. Also on Friday evening, art supplies were displayed by Don's Painting and Decorating. Due to the heavy downpour of rain over the week- end, outdoor sessions were changed and Saturday morning found the group studying figure drawing with Jane Colborne as their model. In the afternoon they worked with the same model doing the figure study in oil. For many, this was the first attempt and Mr. Watson was very encouraged with the progress, and members were equally enthusiastic. Saturday evening he gave a portrait demonstration with Cathy Cavanaugh posing and Sunday morning the group did drawings of head studies with a portrait study in oil during the afternoon. At this session Terrace Bay who received a crystal cake plate for her score of 243 and George Karola of Manitouwadge re- ceived a car visor kit for his score of 280.
