For more details contact the News office. FUNERAL SERVICES FOR E.J. SHANAHAN The funeral of the late E.J. Shanahan, age 77, retired C.P.R. conductor, was conducted in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber on May 8th by Father J. M. Cano. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, Fort William, with Rev. G. Bourguignon conducting the graveside service. m Honorary pallbearers were A.B. McCuaig, G. Duncan, N. Smith, W. Alcorn, T. Bolan, M. Mo- Couan, T. Whent, W. Whent and W.R. Mullins. Active pallbearers were D. Neylon, J. Corrigan and A. Valiquette (Terrace Bay) T. Costa, J. M. Mc~ Grath and C. Todesco (Rossport) . Attending the service from out of town were two sisters-in-law from Calgary, Miss Helen Murphy and Mrs. T.P. O'Connor. Mr. Shanahan had lived in Schreiber since 1911 and was predeceased by his wife in C.W.L. DIOCESAN CONVENTION HELD Holy Angels Catholic Women's League were hosts to the eleventh annual Catholic Women's League Convention, Ft. William Diocese, held May 11th, 12th and 13th in Schreiber with representatives from thirty five Parish Councils in attendance. Rev. R.A. Carey, Red Rock Diocesan Director celebrated mass for intentions of the League members on Tuesday morning in Holy Angels Church. His Excellency E.Q. Jennings sent greeting from Toronto expressing his regrets at being unable to attend but wishing the Convention many blessings and every success. Mrs. 1.L. Obergh, Provincial Representa- tive, extended greetings from the Provincial Director His Excellency A. R. Windle. Convenors reports read showed an increase in mem bership and greater effort being made by all Councils in working for God and Canada. Rev. A.L. Meloche was guest speaker at the after noon sessions giving a most inspiring talk on "Woman The Teacher of Love". He stressed that one must love oneself before being able to love others and the more you love God the more you can love others. He urged members to always be oneself and not try to conform to every new trend today. Every young person reaches perfection during parenthood and only by offering oneself to God and accepting his will can one be content with life. Father Meloche is director of lay retreats at Holy Family Retreat House, Oxley, Ont., an expert on Christian family life and lecturer for Marriage In- stitutes . At the banquet, held Tuesday evening in the High School Auditorium, Father Meloche spoke on "Woman's Role in the Church Today" stating that times are changing quickly and women should not fear the changes and be content with the ways of the present for they can hold the Blessed Virgin Mary as their ideal. Mrs. Linus J. Maino, Detroit, Mich., member of the Advisory Board of the Family Life Bureau of the National C.W.C., Washington, D.C. and writer of several articles in the National Magazines on Marriage and the Family, guest speaker at the Wednesday morning sessions, spoke on "The Gift of Woman" and at the luncheon her address was en- titled "The Making of a Home". Greetings were received from Hon. G. Wardrope, Hon. John Robarts, Premier of Ontario and Mr. Douglas Fisher, M.P. Celebrant for the special convention mass in Holy Angels Church Wednesday morning was Rev. A.J. Hogan, D.P.V.G., director of St. Agnes Parish Council.
