LEGION LADIES HOLD DINNER MEETING The ladies auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Br. 109 held a birthday dinner meeting on May 9 with man y out-of-town guests attending. These included Mrs.Albert Ball of Geraldton, District Representative Mrs.L.Olson (President), Mrs.D.Leadbeater, Mrs. Robt .Clark and Mrs.L.McLeod from Br.169 White River, Mrs.A.Morehouse and Mrs.J.Wall from Br. 183 Marathon, Mrs.H.Solly (first Vice-President), Mrs.G .Daniels (2nd Vice-Pres.), Mrs.W.Fisher (Secretary), Mrs.P.Coupal, Mrs.J.Yates, Mrs.F. Woodruff, Mrs.C .Bougie and Mrs.S.Crawford of Br.223, Terrace Bay. The Color Guard were Mrs.A.E.Rigelsford, Mrs. J.McCouan and Mrs.Robt.Gray, with Mrs .Lester McCuaig as accompanist. During dinner Mrs. Ball was presented with a gift and, in turn, had the pleasure of presenting one to Mrs.Norman McCuaig from the local Auxiliary, in lieu of her past-president's pin--Mrs .McCuaig al- ready possessing one. Mrs.Olson, speaking for White River, said that, although it had been expedient for their auxiliary to join another Command, they would always feel particular friendship for Schreib er, from many shared occasions, and she hoped these would continue Mrs .Morehouse, bringing greetings from Marathon, said such meetings were always a pleasure to attend from the fellowship enjoyed. Mrs .Solly, speaking for Terrace Bay, said the bond b etween Schreiber and Terrace Bay would always be close since many of their members had first joined the Legfon Auxiliary in Schreib er. She also hoped that Schreib er would attend a coming event of their branch. In her address Mrs.Ball said she was no stranger to Schreiber but deeply appreciated her warm welcome i her first official visit. She describ ed a recent visit 1 to Deer Lodge hospital and brought official words of the Athletic Scholarship being sponsored by Legion auxiliaries, saying it is not confined to children of Veterans. Marks will naturally be considered in the final decision but the ruling factor is that the student is committed to take training which gives teacher's training in physical education. The seventeen auxiliaries in this district, with 1244 members, realized $93,000. in one year from their various projects to advance the work carried on by the Legion. After her address Mrs. Ball cut the large cake, made and frosted by Mrs.Rene Bedard for this occasion. A brief business meeting was conducted and during the evening a social was enjoyed to which members brought husbands and escorts. Music for dancing was supplied by Fred McColeman. Mrs.R.C «Macadam was Chairman and Mrs.L .Ibey collected in Rossport. The local collectors were Mesdames D.Souliere, J.Morris, A.Lalonde, D Topolinsky, R.Ellicott, L.Godin, W.Paradis, G. At the morning service in St.Andrew's United Church Rev.Muldrew baptized Susan Karen, daugh- ter of Mr.and Mrs.J.R.Smith and Lloyd Mervin, son of Mr.and Mrs.Stewart Reid. Neil Ross returned from hospital on Saturday. Alex Lamb, E.J.Morrill and Mrs.D.Evans are in Terrace Bay Hospital . Fit .Serg.Anderson, RCAF and Mrs.Anderson, 'visited with Bill and Lorraine Weaver, enroute to Winnipeg from Germany. The Andersons brought messages from Mrs.Weaver's sister and brother-in- law, The Herb.Fosses, still in Germany until next year. If anyone is interested in securing the form requir- ed for 'One continuous 2nd Class Passage' on 'The Marks North Shore Line' they might inquire of Mrs. Lester McCuaig. It should be added the form is dated 188... What and where the Marks North Shore Line was is the question to be answered. MUSICAL PROGRAM PRESENTED AT UCW.MEETING The United Church Women met on May 6 with Mrs. T.P.Whent presiding. She announced the new kitche refrigerator is installed and thanked the committee who cleaned and re-arranged the supplies. Mrs .F .Macadam reported for the sewing committee asking for donations of wool and money for material . Mrs .F .Fummerton said clothing boxes had been sent to Wayside Church for distribution. Tea towelling and table cloths were ordered. Mrs. Whent told of the satisfaction expressed at the recent Presbytery meeting with the work of the local archi- vist. It was agreed to donate to the meeting of the Man- itoba Conference, being held for the first time at the Lakehead. A bid was submitted for a club banquet. Mrs.R. Macadam gave a lengthy report on plans made for the Catholic Women's League Convention banquet. A letter described the course offered to Sunday School teachers at the Prairie Christian Training Centre. No action was taken on this. Date of the June meeting was set for the NINTH.
