« . Page 10 THE SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Ted Young have their son Bruce home from United College in Winnipeg. Mrs. Helen Matuszak is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital in Port Arthur. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended. Dennis Bouchie arrived from DeVry Technical Institute and will be home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Bouchie this summer, Gary Crandlemire, also among the students from United College in Winnipeg, arrived over the weekend and will spend the summer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Crandlemire. Home from DeVry Technical Institute is Henry Stuart who will visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Stuart for the summer. Judy Kurylo celebrated her ninth birthday Wednesday afternoon with a party. Games and play were enjoyed and a party supper served with treats distributed. STUDENTS MARK SHAKESPEARES BIRTHDAY "Happy Birthday, William Shakespeare" was the theme of the assembly at the High School last Thursday morning. The guest of honour was the Bard himself - played by David Roberts Brian Hubelit, the Master of Ceremonies, interviewed Shakespeare who told of his family background and of the world which influenced his writings. An Elizabethan hockey game followed with the Claudius Cup at stake. It was won by the Stratford Red Wings, coached by Shylock Abel. The famous speech from the Merchant of Venice, "The quality of mercy is not strain'd" was capably presented by Irene Uzicanin and Don Colborne re-created the Forum scene from "Julius Caesar" - "Friends, Romans, Countrymety, lend me your ears", All the students involved in the assembly gathered round to sing "Happy Birthday" to Shakespeare at the assembly's conclusion, Plans for the students* trip to Stratford next September are gaining momentum. The tickets have already arrived for "King Lear" on the 24th of September. The students have raised some funds for the trip and are having a MOTHER'S DAY BAKE SALE on May 9th, at CACCAMO'*S GROCETERIA. They are grateful for the wonderful support they have received from the citizens and merchants of the town. The winner in last week's draw was K. Thorsteinson. FITNESS CLASSES END Fitness Classes for Men and Ladies are now afficially over. They will resume in the fall SCHREIBER NEWS Tommy Whitton is a patient in Terrace Bay Hospital, Jack Hagan was entertained at a stag party held by a group of friends in Mike Smilsky*'s home, on April 22nd, On behalf of the others Gino Caccamo presented Jack with a wallet con- taining $155.00 and their good wishes for suc- cess and happiness in his new home. Mrs. Bessie Stewart of Fort William spent last week visiting her daughters Mrs. H. Martinsen and Mrs. R. Gander and their families Mr. and Mrs. Allan Holmes of Winnipeg are here for the summer with Mr, and Mrs. E. Representing the local Auxiliary, the fol- lowing members attended the Anniversary Meeting of White River Legion Aux. recently. Beatrice McCuaig, Alice Potvin, Bern. Whent, and Marg Handel. During the social evening Bern. Whent, White River Auxiliary's first President was presented with a special gift. Some wag had a field day recently by re- porting that Garry Moore was visiting in town Although Garry Moore was indeed here, he came from Kirkland Lake with his mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Moore to visit grandma Della Moore. A charming co-incidence was reported in the Halonen family on April 16th, when Mrs. Lauri Halonen, of Schreiber, and a nephew's wife, Mrs. Barry Gibson of Fort William had baby girls born on that day, the first named Pamela Jane, and the other Pamela Joan. Neither Mother had told the expected day of the birth, both hoping it would be on grandpa Lauri Halonen's birthday, the 15th, nor had they discussed baby's names.
