R.A.Dawson of the Dept.of Highways wrote with reference to the inspection by a member of their Department of the asphalt laying in town. The Reeve reported discussing the matter in some detail with Mr .Duncan and felt they should comply with the Department's wishes for a proper inspection. Coun- _cillor Cavanaugh was concerned over the poor con- dition of the Station road and was informed of the portions under Highways, Township and C.P.R. maintenance. The Queen's Printers were unable to supply the requested copies of the new revision of the Police Act and suggested contacting the Ontario Provincial Police. Council was informed the proposed Work Shop to be held May 4 and 5 in Nipigon was post- poned to avoid interference with the Thunder Bay Municipal League Convention. Council wrote to Mr.J.Ferrier requesting consider- ation of a larger Company house for their assistant Clerk, W.Hanley. The Police Report for March listed investigation of 21 complaints during that period, ranging from children playing in the streets to a series of thefts and break-ins at the end of the month. Some animals had been destroyed at owner's request and complaints were received concerning dogs. Recommendations were made to have the Police Office cleaned and painted. The new Police vehicle had been delivered and Constables Warfield and Milkovich suggested a radio be mounted in the cruiser rather than carry a bulky pocket radio. Fire Chief Hofland reported two calls during March one to a resident and the other a diesel engine at the C.P.R. He suggested two one-hour practices to b e held in May for volunteer Firemen, requesting use of pumps during this practice.
