In reply to the Reeve's enquiry, Councillor Cavanaugh noted the Audiometer had not as yet arrived. Minutes of the past Recreation Committee meeting were read to Council by the Secretary, wherein the Chairman welcomed Mrs.Hamilton to the Committee . Two persons were to take the Leadership Training course available. Condition of the Curling Ice was discussed at length. The lines in the Bowling Alley were being repaired and it was noted the towels in the alleys were in poor condition. There was a Recreation Budget meeting scheduled for this week. Reeve Heenan felt permission for the Dominion Car- nival to come to Terrace Bay in August should come before Council as it required Police and other town services. Councillor Thompson reported the commit- tee is considering hiring engineering services to determine the cause of poor ice condition on one side of the curling rink before tackling the problem. Council agreed there had been too lengthy a tion Centre Concession and Councillor Thompson urged policy be defined in order to avoid a repeti- tion of the existing contract and negotiating problem maintenance, replacements and so forth. Reeve Heenan recommended Council establish a Hydro Electric Commission, replacing the present committee of Council, in the event of future cornpe- tition against Hydro. Council could then remain neutral . Councillor Cavanaugh detailed his meeting with the Police Department and also stated his request for repairs to the property was refused by the owner. Reeve Heenan requested he arrange a meeting of the Police Committee. A proposal to landscape the Swimming Pool area at a cost of $2,000 was made by Councillor Brown. He had investigated the cost of a radio for the Police Cruiser and this was approved at an installation price of $292, after remarking on the benefits during acci- dents and the already noted fire incident. Council- lor Brown requested they study available space in the Municipal offices with regard to locating the Police Department there. Secretary Strutt remarked this could only be possible with a separate entrance which was definitely agreed upon by Council. He further reported he had toured the town and was aware of areas requiring special attention, and lastly recommended to Council they must consider a retirement plan for Municipal employees. Having attended the last Fire practice, Councillor Fraser discussed vacation relief for the Fire Chief. Council were definite in their reply relief would be handled by the Police Department as arranged at the time of their hiring. In closing Councillor Brown strongly recommended a greater liason between the Committees within Coun cil, noting some departments are reporting to the wrong committees and divulging information before it comes to Council. Reeve Heenan added his support to this recommendation. LADIES CURLING CLUB NEWS The annual meeting of the Terrace Bay Ladies Curling Club will be held in the Curling Lounge on Thursday, April 30th at 8:00 P.M. sharp. The past year's activities and financial statements will be reviewed and election of officers for the coming season will take place. Other important items of business are on the agenda and every member is urged to be in attendance. Following the meeting, the runner-up prizes, club bonspiel prizes and miscellaneous awards will be presented during the social evening.
