Wheeler The Laskin Trophy and miniatures were presented to Dorothy Christie and her rink of $.Angus, Muriel Cress and Sheila Symes of Ft. William Sunday after- noon as they beat out the Alice Pollock rink of Pt. Arthur to walk off with the First Event in the An- nual Ladies Curling Bonspiel held here over the weekend. In addition to the trophy, the ladies received Kenwood blankets. Third place in the First Event was taken by Ollie Kross and her rink of Marathon and fourth place was won by another Marathon rink skipped by J.A.Mair. The Terrace Bay rink skipped by Betty Bouchard won nylon comforters as their prize for first place in the second event, b eating out the K. Ettienne rink of Port Arthur. Third place was won by Sylvia Duquette and the J.Murphy rink from Fort William were fourth. Dene Clancy and her local rink were recipients of folding umbrellas as third event winners. Another local rink skipped by Aggie Sinkins took away third prize and the Dennison rink from Marathon was fourth. The tenth annual Bonspiel was opened Friday mor- ning as Ida Romanuk, President of the Northwestern Ontario Ladies Curling Association and Chairman of the Ontario Ladies Curling Council threw the first rock, the participants having been piped onto the rink by Mr. W.McMicking.
