PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD REPORT W.G.Furlonger presided for the March meeting of the Public School Board with all members and princi-~ pal H.M. Ermel attending. Accounts and salaries amounting to $4,436.60 were passed for payment. The Board regretted that, due to W.S.Harris' illness a request from the local Art Club for use of the school annex for their annual show, had not been granted. Mr.Ermel reported on a recent visit by Miss Gal- braith of the Dept.of Education, regarding a new program of physical fitness not under consideration. The adoption of this will entail extra space and addi- tional equipment. R.R.Steele, district inspector, accompanied Miss Galbraith. School enrolment was reported and attendance remains in the 97% mark. The Board appointed Mr.Ermel to attend the O.E.A convention in Toronto this week when a new method of teaching mathematics is to be introduced. The resignation of Mrs. A.LeBlanc was accepted with regret. The board were gratified with the large number of applications and, after consideration, accepted that of Mrs. J.M.McGrath. The same hours will continue--from 3-5 each week day except Wednesday, and closed on all statutory holidays. Mrs.W.Wilkes and Miss G.Hadley agreed to coach Mrs.McGrath in handling book lending and | checking in files. The board were disturbed over a recent instance when business matters of the board were discussed by an outside librarian and have asked for an explanation of this unprecedented action. Also discussed was the borrowing of library equipment without board author- ity. In this case no damage was done but the board, responsible for all books and equipment, is insistent that no one enter the library without express permis- sion~=this of course not applying to the town hall caretaker. Daryl Lynn Weaver, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Wm Weaver was announced Queen at the annual contest sponsored by Teen Town. Daryl Lynn will now enter the Northwestern contest in Keewatin. The judges, Mr.and Mrs. W.M.Duncan, Mr.and Mrs. O.B.Fasan, and Mrs.L.R.McCuaig, based their decision on the following categories (10 points for each:- talent, appearance, poise, personality, speech content, ability on stage, figure and delivery of speech. The other entrants were Maureen Cornell and Sharon Jarva. The speeches were outlines of the girls' lives, their interests and aims for the future. For her talent display Daryl Lynn played a piano solo. Maureen displayed frocks she had made and Sharon played an accordion solo. Warren Morrill was chairman and several numbers on the program were contributed by Teen Town mem- bers. David Winters was exposed as a false entrant when Charlotte Ross interrogated him; Jack Gordon, Fred McColeman and Lawrence Guillet captivated the audience and drew rounds of applause with two original farces. Daryl Lynn received her crown from Crystal Kusik, last year's queen--also many personal gifts from business people in town and friends. The evening ended with a dance. {HOLY ANGELS P.T.A.TO SELECT UNIFORMS H.T. Campbell presided for the March meeting of the the Catholic Parent-Teachers Assoc., in Holy Angels School. Minutes and correspondence were read by Mrs. D.McGuire who also gave the financial state- ment.
