s em January £6, 1964 THE NEWS with old friends. Mr. & Mrs. H. McParland and two children have returned from a visit with relatives in North Bay. Bobby Bryson, son of Mr. & Mrs. J. Bryson, will be in St. Joseph's Hospital, Port Arthur, for the next six weeks having plastic surgery done. Mrs. F. B. Kerrigan has returned after spending the holidays at the Lakehead with friends. Bill Gorr of North Bay has been here visiting his brother John, who has now returned to McKellar Hospital . Don and Patsy Beno will spend their holidays skiing in the Laurentians at the St. Juval resort. Albert Smith will be in St. Joseph's Hospital, Pt. Arthur, next week for treatment . HIGH, HOME & SCHOOL ASSOC. TO MEET The Schreiber High, Home and School Associa- tion will meet at 8.00 P.M. Monday, January 20th in the Library Classroom of the School . CATHOLIC GIRLS' CLUB MEET The Catholic Girls' Club held their first meeting of the year on Sunday with fifty six members and two past members present. Mrs. W. Cocks, presi- dent of the Catholic Women's League, was wel- comed as a guest and the occasion began with a spaghetti dinner prepared by Mesdames Claire and Joyce Eusebi and Amalda Spadoni . The opening prayer was given by Father Cano, followed by roll call by Linda Sisson, minutes by Georgette LeBlanc and financial statement by Betty Comeau. Anna Fummerton, vice-president, was in the chair. Marion Prescott, Spiritual Convenor, reported many cards sent and Spiritual bouquet given to Father Cano at Christmas. Father Cano paid tri- bute to the devotion and time given by the members during the year to the work of their Church and thanked them for his Christmas remembrance. Anna Fummerton thanked the ladies who had pre- pared the dinner and Mesdames J. McCouan, H. Prescott, W. Wilson and A. Moorey for serving it. Santa arrived for the gift exchange, rounds of carols were sung and a social hour ended the evening. EVENING GROUP HOLD ANNUAL DINNER The Evening Group of St. John's Anglican Church enjoyed their annual dinner meeting on January 6th, honoring their oldest member, Mrs. Richard Spicer's 83rd birthday. Birthday cakes were made as sur- prises by both Mrs. E. Wilson and Mrs. J. Corbett. Following the dinner a brief business meeting was held with Mrs. Corbett taking the chair for the election of new officers who are:- Mrs. G. Birch, President; Mrs. A. Slater, Secretary; Mrs. R. Inshaw, treasurer; Mrs. A. R. Parchem, Material Convenor; Mrs. R. Gray, Wool Convenor and Mrs. Spicer, Tea Hostess. Mrs. A. C. Rigelsford was tendered a vote of thanks for cleaning the church. After the business meeting a social evening play- ing cards was spent with whist winners being Mrs. Inshaw, Mrs. R. Winters, Mrs. Corbett and the crib going to Mrs. Spicer. During lunch Mrs. Spicer acted as Santa for the distribution of the members' gifts to each other. MEETING OF THE UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The United Church Women held their first meeting of the year as a potluck supper and fol- lowing the dinner, Mrs. T. P. Whent presided for the business meeting. Mrs. W. Duncan read the Scripture passage and Mrs. A. Gordon was pianist. Annual reports were presented by Mrs. H.W. Gellert, Financial; Mrs. F. Macadam, Sewing and Mrs. N. Smith, Chris- tian Education. Mrs. Macadam asked for donations of sewing from the members and for volunteers to assist with quilting. A valentine tea was planned for Feb- ruary 8th. It was announced the annual congrega~ tional meeting will be held on January 20th pre- ceded by a potluck supper at 6.30 P.M. Roll call at the February meeting will be answered with a verse from the Scripture containing the word Love. During the week of prayer, evening service will be held at 7.00 P.M. A social evening followed the business meeting with games and exchange of gifts enjoyed. LADIES' BOWLING LEAGUE RESULTS FOR DEC. Team standings by points:- Bea McBride 28, Ida Krause 24, Etta Gray 23, Val O'Keefe 21, Bart Kusik 20, Alice McCouan 17, Joan Costall 16, Jean Tremblay 14. BABY COMMISSO LAID TO REST Father J. M. Cano said the Mass of the Angels on January 13th in Holy Angels Church for Rocco Commisso, ten month old son of Mr. & Mrs. Antony Commisso whose death occured on January 9th. The pallbearers were Frank Muia, Vincent Pas- qualino, Tony and Cosimo Commisso. The baby is survived by his parents, a brother Gesi of Schreiber and grandparents in Italy. SOCIAL & PERSONAL Lois LeBlanc is a patient in McKellar Hospital . Mrs. W. Olson of Windsor was the guest of Mrs. J. Cebrario last week. Rev. Sisters St. Austin, Mary Ethel and St. Richard of St. Ganes Convent, Fort William, spent part of the holiday season in St. Joseph's Convent here. Ross Pellow of Chapleau visited here this week
