Two homers each by Joe Heenan and John Mikus and one by Tony Fedun featured the game, along with some sparkling fielding by Mikus and Des Evans-Smith, Little Leaguers used all sixteen of their players during the game, with all contribut- ing to the win, The Fathers are to be sincerely congratu- lated on their good sportsmanship and for their fine play, This is the type of inter- est that the kids appreciate, NOTICE OF POWER SHUTDOWN -IN TERRACE BAY Power 'in the Town of Terrace Bay on Fri- day, September 28th will be off between the hours of 5 A.M, to 6.30 A.M, THE GEESE FLY SOUTH (By G,E,MacKinnon, District Forester) The first flight of Canada Geese going south | | | MACHINE TENDER LOSES HAND AT MARATHON On Friday at 10,20 P.M, the Machine Tender of No.2 Pulp Kraft Machine had his hand caught in the nip point of the mold and press roll and his hand and arm were drawn through up to a point several inches above the wrist. The hand was badly mangled and it was found necessary to amputate the hand and portion of the arm a distance above the wrist. The in- jured man was efficiently and commendably rendered assistance, Within a period of ten minutes he had been administered First Aid, examined by Dr, C.H,J,Reason briefly at the site of the accident and taken to the Wilson Memorial Hospital by the Mill ambulance, Time of admittance at the hospital was 10,30 P.M, The injured man, wishing to take the oppor- tunity of checking the wire facing of the mold roll of his Machine while it was down had sig- nalled to the Machine Tender of No.1 Machine by raising and lowering both his hands in front of his body, to slow the mold roll down so as to check it by letting the face of the roll run against the palm of his hand while he pressed it against the roll, The No.l Machine Tender interpreted this signal to mean to lower the roll and went over and turned the control lever, which controls the compressed air that raises and lowers the press roll, to the down position, In the mean- time the injured man had placed the palm of the smooth roll and the hot water spray pipe, and had started checking the mesh wire facing when the press roll descended, His hand was caught in the nip of the mold and the press roll and it and his arm were drawn through. The signals to slow down and to lower are quite similar and it is felt this is the reason for the misinterpretation, The signal to slow down is a movement in front of the body of the hands up and down from the wrists, while the signal to lower is a dropping of both hands in front of the body with movement taking place from the elbows.
