Nesbitt Grocery Store. which 'has | been in operation since 1937 closed its doors | forever last month, .Mr.Nesbitt, "Charlie' as everyone knows him, first started his career as.a delivery boy for the late A.J,.~ Message and later went to work for the late James Hastings who operated a grocery shop on Manitoba Street and who taught Mr.Nesbitt the art of butchering. age: For two years Mr.Nesbitt. worked in Toronto as a butcher and also with a motor company, returning to continue in the Hastings Store until the opening of his own business oppo- site the Post Office on Scotia Street, Closing the store does not mean that he has retired. On the contrary, he runs the Nesbitt Garage on Highway 17 where he has been-able to put more ofl his tive and energy since ending his grocery career. Mr.Nesbitt is an active member of the newly organized Schreiber District Chamber of Commerce, having been interested in the work since the days of the former Chamber of Commerce, ALBERT GAUTHIER LAID TO REST IN SCHREIBER Funeral services for the late Albert Gauthier aged 67, whose sudden death occurred following a short illness on November 4th, was conducted in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church on November 7th, with Rev. J.M. Cano officiating, Honorary pallbearers were J,B,.Fournier, H, Welbourne, D.Neylan, H.Caccamo, T. Bolan and J,Branchaud. Active pallbearers were Colin McGrath, P.J.Syvitski, A.Cosgrove, R.Martyn, M.Ryan and R. Fournier, Interment was in Schreiber Cemetery, Mr,Gauthier came to Schreiber from Calumet Is. R.A.Crook, Chairman, opening the meeting November being "Every Person Canvass Month"! it was necessary to elect a new Canvass Committee Chairman to replace Committee for.the 1960 Canvass. Mr. R. Macadam was elected to succeed Mr,Austin in this position,. Both Rev, Crook and Mr.Macadam paid tributeto Mr,Austin's fine leadership of this 'committee. The report on the Resources Committee and its findings was given by Mr.Neil Ross, The Programme Builder's report was given by Mr. R.Gander...This report was gathered from in~ formation received through the different groups in the Church, The Church Treasurer, Mr, A,Cuthbertson, gave the financial standings of the past year and present status and submitted the Board of Steward's Budget for 1962...The latter was accepted by the members present, The whole Canvass programme was reviewed . and a' general discussion held which helped the of all phases of the Church activities. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE MEETING ' The Women's Institute held their meeting on Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. R,Winters pre- siding, Members answered Roll Call with a gift for a child in the Retarded Childrents Hospital at Smith Falls, Mrs, W.Thrower read the minutes and corres-; pondence and Mrs. R.Macadam gave the Treasur- | erfs' report.
