In the American League, the Indians, coached by Charlie Koski and captained by Ted Paget, took a high-scoring semi-final from the Tigers, who were coached by Bill Little and captained by Ralph Coe. The final game, for the championship, was a close 10-6 decision for the Yankees over the Indians. Yankee coach was Cliff Wood Jr. and captain Ray Delaronde. The National League saw some hotly contested games, featuring some big upsets, as the Braves swept to the championship after finishing third in league standings. In the first semi-final game, Bob Robinson captained his Braves to an upset winner over the favoured Dodgers who finish- ed far in front in league play. This was an exciting 9-8 win for the eventual champs that saw them scramble from behind several times. i In the second semi-final, the Giants stuck with the Pirates for several innings but collapsed in the final frame to lose by a wide margin. The final game between the Pirates and Braves was another hard-fought contest, with the Braves continuing their never-say- die tactics to come from behind and win the championship. -- Although all the boys played hard, there were several standouts for each team, Some of these were: Bob MoMillan, Bill Shirriff and Ricky Dorman of the Dodgers, Brian Pineault and Howard Wood of the Giants, Steve Fedorak, Peter Heenan and Greg Boudreau of the Pirates and Bob Robinson, Ron Stuart, Keith Koski and Sonny Helmink of the Braves, Coaches in this league, who deserve a great deal of credit, weret Jim Hayes ~ Giants, Bill Stachiw - Dodgers, Don Farrow Pirates and Fern MacLeod - Braves. In the Bantam League championship game, strong pitching by Jim Hayes, backed up by some timely hitting by Gaulin and Coates, and some good fielding, carried the Blues to a close 9-5 decision over the Whites. For the losers, Don Fedun, Bill Stachiw and Cliff Wood stood out. Now that playoffs are complete, All-Star teams will be formed in the National and Bantam leagues for competition against outside teals. During the season and playoffs, in addition to the coaches who provided such valuable service, there were several others who gave invaluable assistance with score- keeping and officiating. These were: Ron Schock, Don Fedun, Fern MacLeod, Douge Moore and Ed Pineault, to whol we express sincere thanks.
