- TERRACE Bay News Authorized as 2nd Class Mail, Post Office Department, Ottawa Circulation Terrace Bay & Schreiber Vol.4, No.25 June 22, 1961 eta na one 2c a a RESULTS OF VACATION SURVEY The results of the summer vacation survey taken by the Recreation Association showed a total return of over 80%, with the following results:- Out of an approximate 410 in the 5 to ll year age group which our summer programme - covers, 335 survey forms were returned, Out of this 335, the following numbers will leave town for the periods indicated: July lst to 8th - 80 away from town, July 9th to 15th ~- 146 away from town, July 16th to 22nd - 131 away from town, July 23rd to 30th - 51 away from town, July 31st to August 5th - 27 away. Aug.6th to Aug.1l2th - 26 away. Aug.13 to Aug.19 - 33 away. Aug.20 tO Aug.26 - 37 away. Aug.27 to end of Aug, - 39 away. During this same period, a total of 108 will not leave town for more than a few days. As a result of this survey, the Recreation Association plans to run a 3-week Summer Pro- gramme both at the Playground and at the Swinming area, this programme to end.on July 22nd, Beginning July 24th, a second programme will begin to run through until the end of August, Those remaining in town for the first three weeks in July will have the oppor tunity to take part in a full-scale swinming instruction programme and summer playground programme, Any adult groups planning activities for the first three weeks in July should note that in most cases the number of adults leaving town closely corresponds with the nun- ber of children leaving town for that period, oT ares Sp ES a A IER SUMMER PROGRAMME PLANS The Summer Swimming Instruction Programme and Summer Playground Programme officially . open on Monday, July 3rd, The Swimming Pro- gramme will again be run at the Dam beach site and the Playground Programme at the Pub- lic School bali field. Swimming Programme - Those who wish to take instruction in the 3-week swimming programme, running until July 22nd, should report for instruction at the times indicated on the flyer that will be distributed through the mail shortly. Once again a $1.00 registra- tion fee will be charged, this amount to be refunded to those who attend 75% of the in- struction sessions for the 3-week programme, This is done in an attempt to ensure maximum turnouts for all sessions. : Playground Programme - As in the past, the playeround prograhize will be run as follows:- (a) Children attending swinming lessons in the afternoons will attend playground in the mornings} (b) Those not taking swimming lessons will attend playground in the afternoons, Each Friday is Special Event Day, and all age groups will attend playground on Friday Mornings. Further information on both fro- grammes will be included in the flyer to be distributed through the mail. TERRACE BAY MISS WINS ART SCHOLARSHIP Miss Paulette Boudreau, daughter of Mr. -and Mrs, Don Boudreau, has been awarded a- scholarship by the Northwestern Art Associa- tion to be used at the Quetico Winter or Summer Art Course, RECREATION COMMITTEE NEWS As in past years, each member of the. HYDRO EMPLOYEE WINS TRUCK RODEO An Ontario Hydro Lineman from the Terrace Bay Area, Jim Power, won first prize in the three-ton class at the Northwestern Region Rodeo held in Port Arthur on June L6th, Mr. Power will try out for the Ontario Championship to be held in Toronto next Sep- tember. OPPORTUNITIES FOR TECHNICAL SHOP WORKERS Canada needs teachers for the trades of drafting, auto mechanics, electricity, machine shop, building construction and occupational trades for boys.
