Owen Barrow and Mr,Lsvender were contacted by representatives of the Kimberly-Clark Co., with a view to conducting Protestant services there. These two ministers were elso serving Schreiber and Marathon at the same time and, after consultations with each other and with the Bishop of the Diocese of Algoma and the Superintendent of Missions for the United 'Church an agreement was entcred into by which a Community Church would be established at Merathon'to be supervised by the anglican Church while the Church in Terrace Bey would be under the guidance of the United Church, in april, 1954, the degree of Dr..of.Divin- ity was conferred on Mr, Lavender by the . | Senate of the United College in Winnipeg in recognition of his long and faithful service in the Ministry. 4lthough.vetiring from active ministry Dr, Lavender expects to still serve in the field of Christian endeavour, assisting the Ministe at Mount Forest inrpastoral visitation and ministering to the sick and shut-ins,. Dr, Lavender has been an active member and a Past President of the local Kiwanis Club. The response of his fricnds to the fare- well activities for Dr,Lavender speak most eloquently of the esteem and respect in which he is held. On Sunday, June 25th br, Lavender will conduct his last official service in the Community Church, He will be sincerely missed by all, particularly the Sunday School |» children, » Sveryone joins in wishing him good health and-happiness in his active retirement from the ministry here and will look forward to a visit from him occasionally.
