The Terrace Bay Comets are entered in the Lakehead Senior Baseball league for the third consecutive season. Practices have started and the team this year have high hopes of making the playoffs. The League is composed of six teams, are, the Red Rock Paper. Kings, the Port Arthur Red Sox,. the Port Arthur' Dinty's Colonels, the Fort William Westfort AA, the Fort William East Ends and the Comets. The Opening day for the 1960 season will be May 22nd. On that day the champions of 1959, the Red Rock Paper Kings, will visit Terrace Bay for a two-game stand. The first game will start at 2:00 P.M, with the second game getting underway fifteen minutes after completion of the first one, Appropriate opening day ceremonies are being planned, This year, as always, the baseball asso- ciation need help, This means not only financial help but people who are willing to take an active interest in jobs that will help to keep the team going=<ticket sellers, transportation men and ground crews, These are only some of the jobs that have to be done, A meeting has been called for the large meeting room in the Recreation Centre for Thursday night, May 5th at 8:30 P.M.° In addition to items on the agenda'for discus- sion the 1959 World Series Picture will be shown. A large attendance would be greatly' appreciated, They KIWANIS JUNIOR FISHING CONTEST Once again the Kiwanis Club of Terrace Bay will sponsor a Junior Fishing Contest, Rules and regulations state that boys and girls, residing in Terrace Bay and four- teen years of age or under, are eligible to enter, Prizes will be awarded to the boy or girl catching the largest fish in the following groups: Lake Trout - Speckled Trout ~ Pike and Pickerel, Fish can be weighed in 'and registered at _ the L & L Market by contacting R, Lindberg : or Mrs, I,Romaniuk, This weighing in can only ' be done during regular store hours, The Contest is open from May Ist' to Septem- ber 15th and contestants can win a prize in one group only but may register a fish in any or all groups, SCHREIBER MISSES RAISE FUNDS FOR RED CROSS Two enterprising young ladies, Patsy Anne Winters and Brenda Dimmery of Schreiber, successfully netted $5.50 at a miniature sale of baked goods, candy and novelties ' held in the. sun porch of Grandma Winters , home last Saturday afternoon, The proceeds were turned over to' the Junior Red Cross, ; an organization to which both belong, Vol.3 No.18 -ERRACE Bay NEWS May 5, 1960 TERRACE BAY HOCKEY ASSOC, ELECT OFFICERS | At the annual hockey meeting held on Thursday, April 28th, the following offi- cers were elected for the 1960-61 season:- President - Joe Adamo Vice-President - Benny Hayes Secretary ~ Elizabeth Burns Treasurer ~-- Peter Diduch Finance-Chairman = Hector McLeod Finance Committee - Fred McMillan - Joe Butler Publicity ~ to be appointed KIWANIS: CAR STILL ON ICE Those who put April dates on their guess as to when the Kiwanis car would sink are, of course, out of the running, However, the pessimists who prophesied May sinking are keeping a keen eye-on the weather and hoping that their entry will prove to be the lucky one. KNIGHTS' OF COLUMBUS HOLD INITIATION On Sunday, May 1st, in Schreiber and in Terrace Bay, ceremonies were. conducted initiating forty-one new.members into the Knights of Columbus. Thirty-five candidates were initiated into St. Edward's Council of Schreiber, two into the Red Rock Council and four into the Geraldton Council, Commencing at 7,30 a.m., a procession of approximately one hundred Knights and candidates went from Holy Angel's Separate School to Holy Angel's Church where they received Holy Communion in a body. Following Mass, candidates for the lst Degree were served breakfast in the Schreiber Hotel, At 10 a.m., the lst Degree was exemplified in the Schreiber Guild Hall followed at 1 p.m., by the exemplification of the 2nd and 3rd Degrees, The lst and 2nd Degree teams were composed of the following members of St. Edward's Council: A, Valiquette, M.J. Nicol, C.A. McGrath, P.J,. Guina, D. McQuire, J.K. MacDonald, M. McGrath, 'L. Bourke, and P, Syvitski. The Ontario State Advocate, Mr, Louis Salini of Fort William Council, was the conferring officer for the 3rd Degree. Those initiated into the Order were: A. Buob, B,. Klowak, L. Kane, W.
