This Friday, district fishermen will begin another season attempting to catch speckled trout. Those going fishing on that day will, in addition to their fishing gear, need an ice saw, to get a line in many of the lakes. However, the streams are open and ardent anglers will no doubt be out in full force on May Ist. Pickerel season for the Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay districts opens on May 16th to next April 14th. Pike, no closed Season. For full information we suggest that interested people consult the 1959 Ontario Fishery Regulations, KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATIONS. MAY 4TH AND 7TH Enrolment of children for the Kindergarten Class for September 1959 will take place at the Public School on Monday, May 4th, 1959 from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. Forms for the official registration will be filled out.and Dr. McCausland will give each child a physical examination. Parents are requested tomake every effort to have their children enrolled at this date as the pre-school physical check is very important to the child's welfare. To enter the Kindergarten Department in September, a child must attain its 5th birth- day by December 31, 1959. Proof of age is required on registration, Kindergarten enrolment for St,Martin's School for September 1959 will take place in the school office on May 7th from 2 P.M, to 3.30 P.M. Parents are requested to make every effort to bring their children for a physical check-up by Dr. M.McCausland, M.0.H. and Mrs, E.Cruikshank , R.N. REQUIREMENTS - Children must be five years old by December 31, 1959. Proof of age will be required by those who were not baptised locally. GERMAN JUNIORS LEARN HOCKEY !CANADIAN STYLE? Chal McCuaig (Schreiber) has brought a pick-up team from the village nearby his Army Camp in Germany into the play-offs in Junior Hockey by using Canadian-style hockey. So good are his lads that Kessling, the best trainer in Germany, who trains the team which plays Canada, is being brought to coach the opposing team. A practice period of the Deilinghoff team, and also the play-offs are being televised. A crowd of 1,500 fans follow the fortunes of the hitherto unknown team and Chal and his bepys were mightily pleased when Kessling asked for a discussion on the style of hockey played by them. | ROLLER SKATING SEASON STARTS MAY 14TH The roller skating season will open on May 14th! There wiil be Thursday night DAY NEws Vol.2, No.7 April 30th, 1959 sessions from 7-10 P.M. weekly from May 14th until October 1st. Prices will be the same as last year, During the months of July and August only there will be Sunday night skating from 8-10 P.M. | Added attractions this year include: (1) | specially taped music by Arnold Studios in Toronto. This includes popular music, old favourites and waltzes, all metronomically timed for roller skating. (2) More skates for youngsters; (3) skates for pre-school children; (4) new and better type wheels on the majority of skates. Why not get a party together often this summer, and enjoy Thursday night roller- skating. oe een aenrerennremene: BASEBALL NEWS A reminder to all baseball players and woujd-be players desiring to play for Terr- ace Bay's entry in the Lakehead Baseball League that Spring practise sessions will be starting Tuesday, May 5th at the High School Diamond, We would like to mention at this time thati we are desirous of giving every potential Sall player in Terrace Bay and District a chance to show his wares, But, this can only be done by the individual himself com- ing out to every practise in a diligent manner, We are quite certain that humerous spots in the Club will be vacant so, if you feel you are able to fill the positions, come out to practises. The practises for the week of May 4th are as follows: Tuesday, May 5th - 6 P.M, Thursday - May, 7th - 6 P.M,, Saturday - May Sth - 3 P.M. - all at the High School Dia- mond, A_call_ is out for Talent The Umpire-in-Chief, Ed.Pineault, has advised us that he is seeking talented indi- viduals to fill spots on his umpiring staff. The pay is good, all games are in Terrace Bay. The plaudits are heart-warming and friendliness is guaranteed. So, come all you big leaguers and get paid for your knowledge of baseball.
