Horticultural Society (Cont'd from Page 8) to hear Mr, N.W. Harrison, Provincial Agricultural Representative from Port Arthur, who was guest speaker for the evening. Mr. Harrison's topic, "good lawns" was most explicit and included full de- tails for combating our sandy soil, -- types of seed, drainage, care and many recommendations for fertilizers and in- secticides. Many local problems were dealt with by Mr. Harrison with equal "clarity during the discussion period which followed. President Ab. Farrow thanked Mr.Harrison for the fine talk and the help he had given to the members that evening. Mr, John Shivas spoke briefly on the soil analysis carried out last Fall from the members! gardens, and made | several recommendations for chemicals and proper fertilizers to improve the growing quality of this soil. Mr. Harry Goodfellow reported the ' duntior Programme was progressing well and Mrs. Mary Husband stated there were now 64 members and anyone wishing to join could contact any member of the executive before March 3lst with their One Dollar to entitle them to the pre- mium of a Peony root. It was like old times having them with us again. We had several studies from which to choose, some very interesting sketches were made in charcoal and pastels. Members of the two clubs discussed their future plans for classes. Since it's the time to be honorin' St, Patrick himself a program arranged by Mrs. F. 0. Soughton and featuring pupils from the three schools will be presented, Come out and see our lads and lasses take part in a gay jig or a lilting tune on Monday the 18th at 8,15 P:M. in the High Scho torium, we know you'll enjoy it. The Association find the present supply of cups and saucers inadequate and ask that this meeting take the form of a cup and saucer shower. Fine china is not necessary - just bring along that extra cup and saucer from home, See you there? Local Conservation Poster & Essay Contest Winners are 'announced. A feature of the evening's pregram held in connection with the Northwestern Ontario Conservation Federation's display on March 8th at Terrace Bay, was 'the. presentation to local children of prizes won in a separate contest, sponsored by the Terrace Bay Fish & Game Club, Entries submitted by pupils from the local Separate and Public Schools were judged at a regular meeting of the Club. This selection also determined the posters and essays that. would be entered in the Federation contest, representing Terrace Bay.
