Volume 5, No. 36 LARGEST CIRCULATION IN TERRACE BAY 'September 8, 1955. Sey No. 4 W N SOFTBALL CO HAMPIONSHI re Manager Ray Belliveau's Shift #4, the underdogs of the finals, on Tuesday night climaxed a major upset of the current soft- ball season with their third successful win in humiliating Manager Al Ziegelman's Pennant Winners Shift #3 in a best of five series, Entering the finals, Shift #3 had piled up a fine record of 12 wins, 1 tie and 4 losses, and by virtue of their accom- plishments entered the finals with no doubt of the outcome. This confidence may have held good if power Krahn and his mates had not followed closely the ball to their bats and gloves in their heads-up class of ball, Because of the great team play pre- sented by Shift #4, softball came to an abrupt ending accounting for their champion- ship along with the Fraser Brace trophy. In the opener of the deciding series held last Thursday before a large number of spectators, with one man on base clean up batter Henry Krahn in his first time at bat followed in with precision Adrian's ball to connect for the first home run of the finals, With a repeat performance in his second time at bat in the top of the third with bases empty, Krahn now had the distinction to cause Shift #3 concern. In their attempt to catch up to the slaughter of Krahn, Shift #3 came through with 2 runs, with the game ending 5-2 in favour of Shift j#4 coached by Red Wood, The battery for Shift #3 was Terry MeInnis catching and Alf Adrian pitching; for Shift #4 Red Wood catching and Nick Chopty pitching, (Cont. on next col,) Krahn was forced to the helm in last Friday's game due to the absence of regular and substitute coaches, Because of this, Krahn abandoned his regular position as short stop to accept his first catching role in Terrace Bay from Ted Commisso and thereby had to make a few changes for their second important meet. In the top of the first, Shift #3 collected three fast runs in their threat that once again they were in the ball game, Again in his first time at bat with one man on base, Krahn sent out a homerto narrow the gap 3-2, With a further run scored by Shift #3, in his second time .at bat with one man on in the bottom of the third, Krahn hit another home run to tie up the ball game, In the following innings due to Shift #3's errors, two further runs were added to the side of Shift #4 to end the score 6-4, It should be noted that with his fourth home run of the finals, Krahn had accomplished the grand record of four home runs out of five times at bat off the great pitching of Adrian, Battery for Shift #3 were Micinnis and Adrian; for Shift #4 Krahn and Commisso.
