So for the next week or two be sure to follow the play-offs of the House League Hockey, NOT: Will anyone who has borrowed the whistles and one of the goal sticks from the House League please return them, We can't play without equipment.. 0-0-0 TERRACE BAY GIRLS DISPLAY THEIR HOCKEY QSILL IN AID OF THE JUVENILE LEAGUE A group of community minded women in Terrace Bay did their part to further the female claim of equality with men, Billed as the "Comedy of Errors," and in that respect played to perfection this game probably put hockey in general back 20 years, but it also forwarded the cause of juvenile hockey in Terrace Bay, to which the proceeds were donated, just as far, From the opening whistle the strategy of the coaches was apparrent. Curly Hale, esteemed mentor of the Cream Puffs displayed a real Dick Irwin flare for wide open, slam-bang hockey, Ken MacKay guiding the destinies of the Powder Puffs, used a Maple Leaf style of defensive hockey and waited for the breaks. Incidently MacKay is still waiting for those breaks. The Cream Puffs were the first to hit the score board when Zippo Harrison took a pass from Ditto: Demas and backhanded the. puck into the top corner of the net, The Powder Puffs came back on the attack and Blondie Phillips brought the crowd to its feet with an artistic display of stick handling and Climaxed it by snipping a goal which caught Chips Jessops repairing her make-up, The play became torrid, and cheered on by the crowd (when they weren't rolling in the aisles laughing) (Cont. on next col.) Page 9 TERRACE BAY GIRLS DISPLAY THEIR HOCKEY SKILL (Cont. ) the girls gave out with a maximum effort trying to break the tie. Then Stonewall Boudreau, a bruising defenceman, raced around her net and roared down the centre of the ice. Gaining speed with every stride she moved in on the defence where she shifted Yakey Whyte completely out of her toque, and then headed for the goal, reminding the oldtimers in the crowd of that great hockey star of yesteryear, Eddie Shore, But Stonewall had not deemed it necessary to bring the puck with her. Apparently she had forgotten to tell Snowball Austin some of the latest gossip, and thought that this was as good a time as any to rectify the error, a In the second period Downey and ~ Demas counted for the Creams making the score three to one, The pace was beginning to tell especially on the Powder puffs whose conditioning for the game had consisted of eyeball rotating and knuckle cracking exer- cises. The period ended with Bubble Gum Coupal rating two minutes for tripping, The third period got underway with the Cream Puffs scoring yet another goal, Austin, wmassisted, The opposition mustering their last bit of strength send Joker Black in who beat Jessop on a hard slapshot, Harrison and Delaronde fired two unanswered goals past Slim McKechnie to end the scoring at six to two. A brawl broke out that gave referees Gauthier and Desrosiers a lot of. trouble, When the smoke cleared Money Bags MacKay and Hot Shot Haviland were ushered to the sin bin for hair pulling, and were still there when the final whistle blew. The grand finale of the game came with referee Desrosiers being chased off the ice by the forty lady (?) players, ; 0-0-0 MEN CURLERS Round IV A should be completed by Tuesday, March 15th, There is lots of free ice on Monday and Tuesday evenings to play off any postponed games so don't be hesitant about using it.
