Honourable Mention: Bourlamaque, Quebec; Porcupine, Ontario." o-0-0 COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION HAS SUCCESSFUL PAST YEAR ~~ Reporting a successful year, and offering interest of 3.6% on deposits, Terrace Bay Community Credit Union held its fifth annual meeting in the Separate School, Wednesday evening, Feb. 3. Guest speakers for the evening were the league representa- tive Herb Dixon of Port Arthur and Gordon Smith, manager, CUNA of Hamilton, Ontario. Twenty-six members and nine visitors were © in attendance. Report of the directors was read by B. Baillie, who expressed sympathy to the president, Fred McMillan, who was stricken with polio last August and unable to be at the meeting. Report of the secretary was read by H, Goodfellow, report of treasurer- manager given by B. Baillie and the report of the credit committee by V. Hopper. It was voted that in future the fiscal year end would be Sept. 30. The following were duly elected to the board of directors: J, Rowley, J. Corrigan, A. Zyri, A. Sinkins, A, Stevens, F. Gaulin, B. Baillie, A, Farrow and W, Anderson; credit committee, J. Mikus V. Hopper and K, McKay; supervisory committee W. Vezina, H. Goodfellow and D. Brearley. At the conclusion of the business sersion, Mr. H. C. Gaundy, on behalf of the management, congratulated the Terrace Bay Credit Union on their fine growth and eontinued success, Mr. Goodfellow then introduced Mr.Herb Dixon, league representative from Port Arthur, Mr. Dixon also congratulated the Terrace Bay Credit Union on its steady grow- the and good management, Using the theme, "Keep what we own", he stressed to the members of the Union the need to strongly oppose an amalgamation of the Central Credit Department of the OCUL with the newly-formed Ontario Co-operative Society which will be brought up at the Credit Union meeting in Toronto this May, Mr. Dixon then introduced the guest speaker of the evening, Mr. Gordon (cont. on next col,) u Page COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION Has SUOCESETUD PAST YEAR (cont. Mr. Smith gave a mest interesting talk on the growth of the Credit Union stating that there were 18,000 Unions in North America, 4,000 being in Canada and nearly 1000 in Ontario alone, He stressed the need of each Credit Union to bring itself before the people of the community, to extend willing credit to its members and drive for new members. He also- expressedthe desire to, see more women become shareholders, In his twenty years of experience he has found that Credit Union members are honest borrowers, only about 2% of all debts being bad. This is a record seldom duplicated by most financial houses. Mr. Smith expressed thanks on behalf of all Credit Unions and himself for the co-operation of management in credit union work, and asked for continued. gcod relations, Following the adjournment, a lunch was Served by the wives of several of the members, 0-0-0 FIGURE SKATING With the coming of the fair weather attendance at our Sunday Figure Skating sessions in Schreiber continue to be exceptionally good. In all, 65 children took advantage of the above zero weather to don their skates last Sunday for 4 hour. of fun and skating. Due to a hockey game this coming Sunday, skating will be from 10:00 a.m, to 2:00 p.m. Transportation is available from the Public School at 9:30 and 10:30 a Wa might mention again, that anyone wish- ing to offer their services to drive skaters to and from Schreiber, are asked to contact Art Reynolds who is in charge of the transportation problem. As mentioned in a previous issue of the "News" we have written to Toronto for films on the Art of Figure Skating, and it is anticipated that they.will be avail- able some time next week, Therefore, all skaters are urged to attend all skating sessions both in Schreiber and hereat the local rink on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so they may be kept well informed as to when these films will be shown. The films are exceptionally good and feature Barbara Ann Scott, demonstrating Figure Skating from (cont. on page 6)
