1953 SOFTBALL SCHEDULE OPENS The 1953 schedule of the. Terrace Bay Softball League got under way Sunday, May 24th, with two high-scoring games, Doug Harris, league president, de- livered the opening address and extended greetings to the players. He was ably assisted in the formalities by Mr, Bert Laundy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Improvement District, who pitched the first ball of the season, The opening game of the twin bill saw Maintenance trounce Structural 29-10 ina wide-open affair. Second baseman HE, Pine- ault boomed ahead in the batting parade with home runs the first two times at the | plate. He followed through with four singles for a perfect batting average. Catcher T, Delaronde had four hits includ- ing a triple and a double, - For Structural, hurler N, Chopty had a 'riple a a double. Winning pitcher was S. ibe ak, In the twilight contest, Shift #2 rang up almost as large a victory "narein, winn-_ ing 21-6 over Townsite. Pitcher E. Aho went a long way towards winning his own game, with 16 strikeouts and a four-bagger. W. Sadowick was top batter for the Shifters, with four hits including a double. Losing pitcher H, Wong stopped three men at the plate, On Tuesday, Structural suffered a 17-11 setback at the hands of the Salary team, Each team scored a pair of round- trippers; B. Borsum and E. Marostica for the victors, Chopty and B. Burella for Structural. P, Rapke and F. Sechesky handled hurl- ing chores for Salary, with Chopty on the opposing mound, NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGES The Executive of the Softball Club wish to advise players, and fans alike, that it has been decided to disoontinue Ss, waday evening ball games forthwith.
