2 Pulp and Paper Industry. The Townsite consists at present of 226 homes a modern Sshenping centre, modern 7-room school with kindergarten and a 54-room hotel. Community Services In addition to facilities already noted, temporary facilities located in the Lower Camp which will be gradually transferred to the Townsite include, post-office, bank, hospital, firehall, church buildings, garage and service station and theatre, Recreation facilities developed to date include a Recreation Hall with badminton facilities, 2-sheet curling rink, hockey and skating rink, ball field with bleachers for 500, tennis courts and a playground for the children, It is expected that bowling facilities will be developed by early fall. Community Organizations Recreation in the Community is operated by autonomous organization governing each activity. Co-ordinating recreation 1s a Community Recreation Committee on which all organizations may have representation through membership on an Advisory Council. Affairs of the Recreation Committee are governed by a 7-member Executive which includes representatives from loaa] union, private enterprises in the community, ladies of the community, Longlac Pulp and Paper Company, and three members of the Advisory Council. Terrace Bay has two churches operating in temporary buildings, St, Martin's Catholic Church and Terrace Bay Community Church. The Community Church embraces all protestant denominations, Apart from church and recreational organizations, the community has branches of the Women's Institute, Canadian Legion and a Masonic Lodge, the latter two having their own buildings. Municipal Stata@s As an "Improvement District" with a 3-man Board of Trustees, Terrace Bay has had statutory authority as a municipality since September 1, 1947. Educational Facilities In addition to the modern 7-room school in the Townsite, a Continuation School (up to and including Senior Matriculation) is located at Schreiber, 10 miles west of Terrace Bay. Local pupils who attend are transported daily by bus. Transportation Facilities Serviced by the Canadian Pacific Railway, Terrace Bay is also located on Highway #17 which connects with Schreiber, Nipigon and the Lakehead. The high- way surface is black-top. Lakehead bus service is operated daily. Location of Mill The pulp mill of the LongLac Pulp and Paper Company was built at the southern end of a water system down which logs are floated from timber limits centred at LongLac, Ontario, some 80 miles to the north, where the Company's wood- lands Department offices are now located, Prior to construction of the mill, pulp logs were rafted from the mouth of the Aguasabon River to Slate Islands 10 m$lee out in Lake Superior where they were loaded in barges, taken to Green Bay, Wisconsin,
