SCHOOL OPENS FOR FIRST TIME AT TERRACE BAY At 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2nd, 1947, school opened for the first time at Terrace Bay, marking another step in the. growth of our community. Principal Clarence Smith welcomed the pupils to the temporary school which is being held in House #106 on Laurier Avenue. For a number of children it was their first experience with school and they, no doubt, felt a little strange. Grade 1 - Walter Carrigan, Mary Schneble, John Bird, Bryan Carpenter Judith McCausland. sat sill TERRACE BAY STORES OPEN SOON By mid-September, Terrace Bay residents will be shopping in stores within the community. Mr. L. A. Martin, Manager of the local Hudson Bay Company store, has returned to Terrace Bay with his assistant, Bill Schoyen, and plans are underway for the official opening of the store on or about September 12th. In addition to a complete stock of wearing apparel for all members of the family, the store will also carry a large stock of major appliances, hardware, drug sundries, boots and shoes, fresh fruits, vegetables and groceries. During a brief interview, Mr. Martin also outlined a Shopping Service which would be established here. This service will assure 3-day delivery from Hudson Bay's retail store at Winnipeg. Until the permanent shopping centre is completed in the townsite, the Hudson Bay Company will operate in temporary quarters across from the Post Office in the Lower Camp. Work is progressing on the building to be used by Terrace Groceteri& as temporary quarters. At the time of going to press, however, Mr. G. M. Lumbers, the proprietor of the store which will carry a complete line of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and groceries, was not available for comment as to the opening date of the groceteria which will be located immediately west of the Dispatcher's Office.
