Duties will include all aspects of managing Board finances, such as financial statements, helping to prepare budgets, budget control and assisting with long range financial planning. A major responsibility will be further computerization of accounting and financial processes. The Board has a budget of seven million dollars and a business staff of five. An individual with an accounting designation with significant experience is preferred, but very substantial progress toward certification (C.A., C.M.A., OR C.G.A., 5th level) along with substantial practical experience, may be considered. First- hand experience and excellent skills with computers is essential. EAGER is work- ing on the recycle part of it, trying to establish a program in our area. Meanwhile, I would like to make a few suggestions about Reducing our waste. Many of these ideas also fit into the Reuse category, because when we use non-dis- posable products, we reuse them and thereby reduce the amount of garbage we throw away. One area where many of us can make a difference is in our children's school lunches and snacks. A common practice among parents is sending juice boxes along in lunches. Just think of the unnecessary garbage: three small boxes, each with a straw wrapped in plastic, all held together by a plastic wrapper. Not only is there more packaging to throw away, you can't control how much juice you giving out. Many smaller children can't drink all the juice contained in the boxes, so it gets thrown away too. That's not the way I want to spend my money. It's more economical and kind to the planet to buy a thermos (made of plastic for smaller children) and fill it with what- && At the end of the day, what dif- ference does washing another dish or two really make? 33 ever you have in the fridge. How many of us wrap sand- wiches, cookies or fruit in plas- tic wrap? Use your washed out milk bags or plastic containers for these things. Your tupperware has just paid for itself, and you'll make the environmentalists happy! Send your child's lunch, not in a new paper bag every day, but in a cloth bag, packsack or lunch pail. All of these are available in designs to suit any child and yes, you'll save money in the long run. Survey gauges NW Ont. ~ Northwestern Ontario resi- dents view unemployment as the most important problem facing Canada, according to a Confederation College survey released last week.
