by Darren MacDonald Staff There's not much happening locally for the upcoming Oct. 26 referendum on the Charlot- tetown Accord. Neither Terrace Bay or Schreiber Townships have plans to take part in any offi- cial way. In separate inter- views, Terrace Bay Clerk-Trea- surer Dave Fulton and Schreiber Reeve Bob Krause said that the towns won't be taking part. "I think it's up to the gov- ernment to sell it," said Krause. Lake Superior High School teacher Roy Handy says he considered trying to organize a public debate at LSHS, but was unsure who he could get to debate the issues. "One of the problems was that, offhand, I'm unaware of anyone in the towns who could be set up in a debate on the accord who the general public would consider qualified to speak," says Handy. He says that even if he could get a prominent politi- cian such as Rég Bélair to come and debate the 'Yes' side Referendum '92: no local events planned for this area so far I have ancient history this month, and it's kind of hard to work in the Charlottetown Accord into ancient Egypt." One class the accord has come up in this semester is economics, says Handy. "There's lots of economic arguments going back and forth in the campaign," he says. "All hos- pitals should be, but some don't bother to get (accred- ited.)" But Fewer says that not only is there a certain amount of prestige involved in getting a three-year accreditation, there's a practical side to it as well. Unfortunately, Handy says he has no Canadian History classes are scheduled until next semester. "If I had my classes this semester, we probably would be concentrating (on the refer- endum) almost exclusively for the next month," he says.
