Council digs | in their heels over walkway by Darren MacDonald Staff Terrace Bay Councillors aren't happy with the response they've received from Moore /George Associates, designers of the Aguasabon Gorge Walk- way. Council had asked Moore /George to pay the full cost of placing wood stiffeners down the centre of the Walkway to prevent the boards from warp- ing, which they have started to -- in a letter dated Sept. 18, Moore/George replied that they would be willing to pay for cost of the materials to fix the prob- lem, which they estimate would be $1,000. The township would have to pay for the labour to install the stiffeners. However, Moore/George also says that the $1,000 should be deducted from the $4,455.48 the township is already with- holding from them because of problems with the design of the walkway's steps. So in effect, the repairs wouldn't cost them anything, since the township has no plans to. give Moore/George the money they're withholding. "So they laid it out for nine continued on back page slow-pitch suspended by Darren MacDonald Staff Terrace Bay Council has suspended operations of the Terrace Bay Men's Slow-Pitch League until the league pays nearly $1,000 it's still members owe in membership fees from last season. At its meeting on Sept. 30, Council decided that rather than sending letters out to each individual that owes the recre- ation centre money, it would send one letter out to the league's president informing him that the club was suspena- ed until the outstanding fees © were paid. "One simple letter will do this," said Reeve Jim Ziegler. ""W e tell them that they can't play ball until this is paid." Ziegler said that the town- ship relies on the fees to main- tain the condition of the ball field. "They complain about the condition of the ball field, and then they don't give us the continued on page 8 Inside Drug Awareness Week............2....3 Larry Sanders talks about the constitution.....5 Community briefs--Court FEPOFT........0000000 - -- DIANNE O'NEILL i CE BAY INSURANCE LTD.
