But once we reach a certain age, we can make our own decisions about what's proper, thank you very much. The Rae government is working hard to empower many groups that have previ- ously been shut out of govern- ment. And that's an unques- tionably good thing. The polit- ically correct movement has helped to bring many historic injustices brought to light and society is beginning to come to grips with them. But there is a danger that these newly 'empowered groups will go overboard in their zeal to 'right' past wrongs. You can't force your version of morality on the public. There are legiti- mate arguments on many sides of the issues, and no one group has a monopoly on moral authority. The politically correct movement started out as a well-intentioned group bent on raising our awareness of a number of injustices. But the intolerant and sometimes ridiculous turn the movement is taking is pushing many natu- ral allies away and is providing its foes with plenty of ammu- nition.
