More on page 8 and 9. few options for building by Darren MacDonald Staff Terrace Bay has offered to pay for half of the cost of pro- viding the Wiseway building with a water line, says Superi- or North Business Develop- ment Manager Mary Long. _ "The offer is that they will pay for half of the cost and we'd pay for the other half," she says. "And it's still to be decided how they would tax us." Long says that since the BDC first asked council to provide the Wiseway building with water, a number of other building opportunities have emerged. "By no means are we dis- missing the possibility of using the Wiseway, because it still has a lot of strengths," she says. "But we're also looking at other buildings in Terrace Bay and Schreiber. Township Engineer John Este says that 137 high pres- sure sodium street lamps have been or will be installed in Schreiber since last June. The budget for the project is ° $59,624, but one quarter of that will be paid by Ontario Hydro. "The biggest advantage is cost saving," says Este. ""We're going to save 26 kilowatts of power." Este says they probably won't need to be replaced for 15 years. There are a total of 239 street lamps in Schreiber, and all of them have been convert- ed to high pressure sodium lights, from mercury vapour. "High pressure sodium is about the most efficient form of lighting," he says. "Low pres- sure sodium is more efficient cost-wise, but the light they give off isn't as bright." The new lights also have lenses in them that direct the light toward the street. The lenses, when combined with the newness of the lamps, means that Schreiber is a lot Inside Schreiber recognizes Dom Filane..............3 brighter these days. "The high pressure sodium lamps aren't . necessarily brighter than the mercury vapour lamps, but the mercury ones had lost a lot of their brightness over time," says Este. Some of the mercury lamps had been up more than 20 years, he says. The electrical work was done by Schreiber Hydro, and only lamps owned by the continued on page 14 Larry Sanders attends the Pays Plat Pow 0 Library news..6 r = DIANNE O'NEILL .
