The official count of 483 people was the biggest in the four year history of the mine tour. "We take a fair amount of pride in what we're doing here at Winston Lake," says Minno- va spokesperson John Wilcox. "(The open house) gives us an opportunity to demonstrate to people how well we do things. The tour consists of a demonstration of surface drilling, the mine rescue team demonstrated how they put out fires, a tour of the mill, and, of course, and underground tour. "Last year our contest for the children had a safety theme," he says. "This year, we used an environmental theme, and that seemed to go over quite well." Children who collected a list of items available at different spots along the mine tour were given prizes at the end. the prizes included frisbees, t- shirts, mugs and hats.
