Paul Lavigne, 29, was taken to the McCausland Hospital after the accident. The Buick he was riding in was demolished, and the moose was killed in the mishap. The accident occurred near Billy Lake Hill, which is about 3 km west of Schreiber, on the moming of May 20. Lavigne and the driver of the vehicle--Real Laramee of White River--were headed to work at Minnova Mines, when Lavigne spotted the moose heading out of a bog and on to the highway. "It stepped right over the guide wires and bang," said OPP Sgt. Andy Templar in an interview May 21. SCCU President Dawn Hal- crow says the credit union's board of directors made the decision because it would have meant its members would have received no dividends for at least two years. "We're only a small credit union, not a bank," says Hal- crow. "If we don't pay divi- dends, we don't have mem- bers."
