Broker 825-9492 Cocaine possession nets man $10,000 fine by Darren MacDonald The News John Vanderwerf of Talbotville, Ont., has been found guilty of cocaine possession and has been sentenced to a fine of $10,000 or three years in prison. The decision was handed down by Judge Clark in Schreiber Criminal Court May 6. Charges of possessing a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking that had been laid against Vanderwerf were dropped. All charges against Deborah -Vanderwerf, also of Talbotville, were dropped. See stories inside. by Darren MacDonald The News A Terrace Bay youth was seriously injured after the motorcycle she was riding on ran into a pick up truck. Cheryl Robinson, 17, sustained major injuries when she was thrown from a 1984 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Wayne Preuit, 21, of Marathon. The accident occurred around 4:00 pm Youth injured in motorcycle accident Friday, May 1. According to the Terrace Bay Police Services report, the accident occurred when Preuit tried to pass a 1987 Chevrolet pick-up truck. Both vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 17 in Terrace Bay. When Preuit tried to pass, the truck turned left on to Hudson Drive, and the continued on page 2 New long distance line in Schreiber and Terrace Bay by Darren MacDonald The News Bell Canada technicians are working on replacing the long distance telephone line between Schreiber and Terrace Bay. A two man crew have been working on installing fibre optic cables between the two towns, which will make long ' distance dialing "faster and clearer. "Did you ever see that commercial wifere you can hear the drop of the pin?" says Bell Canada Technician Keith Scott who, along with fellow Technician Morris Theberge, have been working on installing the new lines. The new cables themselves are about the width of a strand of hair, and are colour coded. "(With the new line) voices are carried over light signals instead of copper," he says.
