This event took place Sunday, Feb. 23 in the recreation cen- tre and was thoroughly. enjoyed by all in attendance. The "Bookworm" team was entered in the Pictionary chal- lenge and won the consolation prize in the 'C' event. The team consisted of Betty Anne Klassen, Donna Mikeluk, Chris Fournier, Anna Com- misso and Teresa Stortini. The library Boards from Terrace Bay and Schreiber participated in a library board orientation workshop Feb. 24 with Consultant Jan Smith from Ontario Library Service. A donation of non-fiction books on Scientology author L. Ron Hubbard have been received from the library. The total cost of the project would be about $500,000- 600,000. "The rent from the doctor and dentist would pay for the mortgage and maintenance costs," said Schreiber Reeve Bob Krause. If the grant is approved, Council hopes the building will be finished before the end of this year. The proposed location for the centre would be on Scotia Medical/Dental centre for Schreiber Street in Schreiber, near Holy Angels Catholic Church on Superior Street. In order to qualify for the grant, the Township must show a need for a new centre in its application. The only thing in the hall right now is the town library, and nothing else can be moved there unless its renovated to meet fire and building codes. "It (the hall) hasn't been kept up, and you're talking major renovations for that building" to keep it open Krause said. Winter Carnival Accidentally left out of the list of the Terrace Bay Winter Carnival committee members in the carnival brochure were Judy Hackett and Sandra Mul- ligan, who are definitely part of the committee. Also, the cost of the pool tournament at the Sportsman's Lounge on Saturday is $10, not $5, as is listed in the brochure. And there's no such thing as a fly party--it's a sliding party. Plus, the travel night is at the curling club, not the legion, as listed in the paper last week. And there will also be helicopter rides. The carnival itself is almost upon us, and organizers are encouraging everyone to take part. Town Hall cracked walls, the basement takes in water when it rains, and the walls are cracked. Council did quash rumours some people at the meeting had heard, that a decision to tear down the hall had already been made. "There's been nothing decided," Krause said. Councillor Lorraine Huard said that a more pressing prior- ity was the Recreation Centre. "If we don't do something with the Rec Centre, we're going to have to close it," she said. One possibility being con- sidered is moving the library into the medical building-- assuming the new medical /dental centre is built--and closing down the hall entirely, . Krause said. "That would save the tax- payer $25,000 a year," he said. "It seems a damn shame to tear down a building that's been around since everybody in this room was a kid," one man said. Council said they would take the delegation's views into consideration when any deci- sions are made. 14 LAY "25 ns a ws! es Xe Ie es SS "vvvvvVYYYYY vevee ae < <7s < ae o¢: b < I would like to thank all those who sent flowers { ise and cards and took time to visit me during my { '¢ y 3 stay in the hospital.
