Page 13, News, Tuesday, March 10, 1992 Hayes Lake wins weekend tourney Action from last weekend's championship game. by Darren MacDonald The News Lawrence McParland scored or assisted on all six goals, as the Hayes Lake Wailers downed the Thunder Bay Hor- nets 6-1 Sunday afternoon. The win gave Hayes Lake first place in the weekend tour- nament held in Terrace Bay. The game was a sometimes chippy affair, with one player from each team receiving a game misconduct. In' all, the referee gave out 58 minutes in penalties. Hayes Lake scored first at 8:17 of the opening period. McParland deked a Hornet defender, and then slid a pass to Marc Bilec, who beat the Thunder Bay goalie to make it 1-0. Gord Fummerton also assisted on the play. With a penalty about to be called on the visitors, McPar- land scored his first goal of the afternoon at 6:54. Pat Moher and George Hermes assisted. Peter Armstrong's slapshot three minutes later made it 3-0 Hayes Lake, with McParland and Corey Huard picking up assists. With 25 seconds left in the first, Greg Adamo's slapshot from an awkward angle put the Wailers up 4-0, with McPar- land and Bilec assisting. After totally dominating the opening period, Hayes Lake slowed the pace down in the second. Their lone goal came on a pretty play in which McPar- land took a pass from Bilec, deked a Hornet defender to move in front of the net. He waited for the goalie to commit himself, and then deposited the puck in the top comer. The Hornets only beat goal- tender Joe Speziale once, with a slapshot at 2:55 of the second period. Play became rougher in the third period, but McParland got his hat trick at 5:22, assisted by, guess who, Marc Bilec. Bilec himself had a four point afternoon. P.O. Bag #2, POT 2S0 { MINNOVA Inc.
