COURT ST. 1-807-345-2508 Ducks Unlimited sell local artwork to help save wildlife An auction held Sept. 21 by Ducks Unlimited raised about $15,000, president Gerry Lan- driault said. "We had a reasonably suc- cessful night," he said. "We're down a bit from last year, but we expected that. Times are tough." More than 115 people attended the auction, which was held at the Schreiber Recreation Complex. Among the items sold by auctioneer Ron Hough were limited edition prints of nature scenes and items donated by local businesses. Schreiber carver Frank Sem- ple donated some of his work, as did Sylvia Broughton, a ceramist from-Terrace Bay. "We would also like to give a special thanks to Heather Vandergraaf, whose work was well appreciated by the crowd," Landriault said. One of the evening's high- lights was the 'duck dump', in which people made bets as to which part of the floor a duck would 'dump' his business. "Just like last year, we had a split pot," Landriault says. "The duck 'dumped' right on a line." Ducks Unlimited is an orga- nization committed to conserv- ing the natural habitats of ducks. After expenses are deducted, the money raised in the auction is forwarded to the charity's headquarters in Win- nipeg. Last years, organizers were able to donate 80 per cent of the auction's gross earnings to the parent chapter, and they hope to reach _ that ratio again this year, Landriault said. Most of Ducks Unlimited conservation work is done out west, but some work is done in Southern Ontario. 7 SRYAS- The Marathon Parks and Recreation Department is proud to present the --no¥ . oor? an yitieS 955 rer ACY puss wir i er gation NORTH SHORE WINTER SHOW OCTOBER 4TH, 5TH, 6TH 1991 MARATHON ARENA Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Sunday 12 noon to 4 p.m. wit s ret spr nent cavlh ies inter ot job?
