Carolyn's Critique ~ The Reluctant Dragon Rating: O poor... This Disney production is really 2 movies in one. The title feature and a short called "Morris The Moose". Both are delightful fun for children of all ages. In The Reluctant Dragon, the dragon is just that, reluc- tant. He hates fighting and would rather spend his days dancing through the flowers and reciting poetry. He keeps to himself, up on the hillside, and doesn't bother anyone. Unfortunately though, one OFFER ENDS SATURDAY Sic SiR ie 10 excellent of the villagers spots him and raises the alarm. The towns people shouts of "Kill the drag- on" fill the air. While everyone is rushing around in a panic, one little boy goes up the hill to see this dragon. He is quite surprised to see the dragon singing under a waterfall. The boy and the dragon doesn't engage in some polite conversation, during which the boy tells the dragon about the villager's plans to kill him, but the dragon doesn't believe him. After all, if he doesn't hurt anyone, why would anyone want to hurt him? The boy returns home in time to learn that Sir Giles, the brave Knight, is getting ready to kill the dragon. He talks to Sir Giles and explains that the dragon is really nice and only wants to be left alone to write poetry. Now Sir Giles, who writes poetry himself is impressed. He and the boy go to see the dragon. The dragon and Sir Giles recite their poetry for each other and become friends. The dragon still refuses to fight until Sir Giles devises a plan for fake battle. That way they can all save face and no one gets hurt. The delightful silly non-bat- tle takes place the next day. Once the dust has cleared, Sir Giles is a hero and he "reform" Supervisor". THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF TERRACE BAY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY with the TOWNSHIP OF TERRACE BAY RECREATION DEPARTMENT NIGHT SUPERVISOR The recreation Office has an opening for a "Night the "bad" dragon. The villagers are now happy to welcome the dragon into their town. The moral, I believe, of the story is that you should not have pre-set ideas what some- one is like, but rather, should * treat everyone with kindness and respect. Morris The Midget is a tale of a moose with a full size set of antlers but a tiny body. He is quite despondent about this. Comes the day when all the moose gather to challenge the mighty Thunderclap for the position of leader of the herd. All who try, fail. Poor Morris tries, but of course, Thunder- clap quickly dispenses with him. Morris is humiliated and goes off to sulk. ; Balsam, a normal size moose with tiny antlers and Morris become friends as they discover their differences really make them the same. One day, while riding on Balsams shoulders, Morris realizes that their shadow looks like one normal moose. He and Balsam decide that together they can challenge Thunder- clap. The battle is on. Morris and Balsam bravely hold their own but Thunderclap is too experi- enced, too strong. He flings them down a revine. They climb back up the hill and, to Thunderclap, they look like one monstrous moose. Thunderclap runs away. Balsam and Morris have proven that when 2 people work together, the job gets done. . This is a Disney mini classic running 28 minutes long. Older kids might find it too short, but all will love it. I give it a 10. The Night Supervisor will provide evening and weekend reception and oversee facility use, to ensure a positve and organized recreational envi- ronment.
