Page 9, News, Tuesday, May 21, 1991 Schreiber Snow dumping on Subw Continued from page 1 They expressed their concern about these areas to Kenny. "I didn't have an answer for them but I promised I would get some," Kenny told the News. He returned to the school on Friday, May 10, with some answers. He told the assembled students that he had gone out, as part of his job, to assist them, not only to clean up the creek but to construct bird houses and bird feeders at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park. In fact, he said, I learned from both the Kindergarten - Grade 3 students and the Grade 4 -Grade 8 students, just how much they cared about the wildlife and wildlife habitat. Kenny was able to tell the students that the Township of Schreiber would be see that the owner of the garbage bin would remove it. The township would make the sure the bulldoze pile was removed. As well , the Township will stop dumping snow at the present site and clean up the debris left in the ravine once the snow melts. The Ministry of the Environment, the Township of Schreiber and the Ministry of Natural Resources will begin to look for an alternative site for the snow dump. "I wanted to stress to the kids that their voice had been heard. They had made a difference - a big difference." Kenny said. As far the snow dumping site is concerned nobody had Schreiber Public School Schreiber Creek. really being doing anything wrong, said Paul Jordan, Senior Environmental Officer with the Ministry of the Environment. "That's been an historical snow dumping site and there wasn't much thought given to students picking up garbage along that kind of activity in the past," he said. That kind of activity is not acceptable now because high levels of chlorides and other contaminants in the snow go right into the river, he explained.
