The total cost of the study, to be conducted by the Institute of Environmental Research, is $25,000. The Township's share of the project will be $7,250. User groups are now being given the opportunity to provide input on the project... "The. most important thing to realize," Larivee said, "is that whatever we build will be here for a long time and we have to make sure the facility reflects the needs and the wants of the community." Appointments are being set up between the various groups that use the Recreation Complex and the consultants. These meetings will take place on Tuesday, April 9. A public meeting for all interested people will be held on-Monday April 8, in the Community Hall at 7.30 p.m. Larivee said that any groups or organizations interested in being involved in the study should contact the Recreation office. The idea is to design an affordable facility that will meet as many needs as possible, he explained. Complete community support will be necessary when funding is being sought from government, he said. "We have to have total community support to back up the proposal and show the need for the facility." Construction could begin in 1993 once the proposal is accepted and the funding in place, he said. Staff cuts at Birchwood Terrace by Rob Cotton The News Non-unionized employees of Birchwood Terrace have been given two months notice that staff will be cut by 22 per cent through layoffs and reduction of hours. "We're looking right now, possibly, at three actual layoffs," said Michael Yakamovich, administrator for District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged. The remainder of the cuts will be in the form of a reduction of hours, he said. How much time will be cut from each employee depends on the employee's position and how the reorganization takes place, he explained. The effect on the twenty-one part-time and three full-time employees is a result of declining numbers of residents at the home. : Birchwood Terrace, a 62 bed residential care facility currently has 24 residents.
