ONTARIO GOVERNMENT NOTICE Commencement of Planning/Preliminary Design Studies FOUR - LANING OF HIGHWAY 11/ 17 THUNDER BAY TO NIPIGON THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION (M.T.O.) wishes to announce the start of two studies which are part of a series of engineering and environmental projects being carried out in preparation for the four-laning of Highway 11/17, the Trans-Canada Highway, between Thunder Bay and Nipigon : #1 is a planni roject which extends from the junction of Highway 11 ond 4 at Nipigon pet ek 2 for 19 kilometres to the west boundary of the Township of Red Rock. This project will examine a range of options to four-lane the highway and maintain access to the businesses and residences located in the area. Also included will be the planning for twinning the Nipigon River Bridge. Study #2isa preliminary design study which extends from Highway 527 easter- ly for 15 kilometres to Lakeshore Drive in the Township of Shuniah. This pro- ject will establish a preferred location for the new lanes of the twinned highway. The first Public Information Centers are tentatively scheduled for the fall/winter of 1990. The centers will allow the public and interest groups an opportunity to discuss their concerns and the studies with Ministry staff. The public will be notified of these Information Centres by a. general mail-out in the area and by notices placed in local newspapers. Both studies are being conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. : Later in 1990, the MInistry will be starting two additional plan- ning studies for the remaining 67 kilometres between Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah and Red Rock. e are interested in hearing any comments or concerns you or lyour group may have about the two studies being initiated. That day, Ontario's provincial educational broadcast network celebrates its twentieth anniversary, with festivities in local communities and on air. Sunday, October 7th is Respect for Life Sunday and everyone is urged to say the Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Plans are underway for the Bazaar being held on October 20th. September 27 also marks another significant date- the twentieth birthday of Polkaroo, the star of TVOntario's best-loved series for children, Polka Dot Door. Polkaroo will join Toronto's mayor and TVOntario's chairman at Nathan Phillips on Square at 10:30 a.m. Council from Mississauga won the Banner contest.
