Page 2, News, Tuesday, April 17, 1990 Lo Ca S Dp O rts- Schreiber Hockey Wind-up, Darts, & Figure Skating Hockey The Schreiber Minor Hockey League Wind-up was held on Sunday, April 7. About 300 peo- ple attended and were served a spaghetti supper catered by Faye & Jim Figliomeni and hockey Grandmas- Mary Fummerton, Joy Riley, and Rita Scott. A special award was presented to Jim Figliomeni for his gener- ous donations and his time put forth in helping out Schreiber minor hockey. The Hall of Fame plaque recipient was Gerald Fischer. A presentation by Ben Prince was made on the concept of "Superior hockey for the 90's" which would involve both Terrace Bay and Schreiber minor hockey. Bobby Spadoni and Rachel Baxter were both presented with a trophy for the most money raised in the skate-a-thon. The Beginners coached by Dave Kay, Cos Commisso, and Ted Velanoff were all presented with trophies and participation certificates. The Novice team received a championship plaque which was presented to team captain Stan Spadoni. Individual awards were: MVP- Stan Spadoni, Most Sportsmanlike- Mike adey, Most Improved- Clint Berthelot, and Most Dedicated- Steve Zaporzan. Coaches of the Novice team are Terry Berthelot and Dave Kay. The Atoms were presented with a plaque for being North shore finalists. Individual awards were: MVP- Andrew Adey, Most Sportsmanlike- Jake Schmiedchen, Most Improved- Jamie Spadoni, Most Dedicated- Dallas McLeod. The Atoms are coached by Mike Lake and Harry Tymko and trained by Bruce McLeod. The Peewees' coaches are Stan Spadoni, Dale Riley and Ron Fummerton. Their trainer is Joe Figliomeni. Individual awards went to: MVP- Bobby Spadoni, Most Sportsmanlike- Shawn Figliomeni, Most Improved- Clinton Riley, and Most Dedicated- Scott Fummerton. The Bantam's individual awards went to: MVP- Vince Pasqualino, Most Sportsmanlike- Phil Figliomeni, Most Improved- Marvin Fulton, and Best Defense- Rick Doucet. The coaches are Bert Logan and Joey Speziale. Peter Speziale is the trainer for the Bantams. The Midgets had a very suc- cessful year. They received a plaque for winning the North Shore Championship. Coach Darren Rolland and trainer Claudio Commisso led the team to many wins in several tourna- ments during the season. Awards went to: MVP- David Figliomeni, Most Sportsmanlike- Jamie Speer, Fred McColeman Memorial- Chris Commisso, Most Dedicated- Dale Wilson, and Don Souliere Memorial- Mike Speziale. Darts Schreiber has some of the best dart players in Ontario. Though they only attended one of the three sub-zone meets in Thunder Bay, four Schreiber Dart players did well enough to compete in the sub-zone finals. Sylvie Martin placed 1st in the Ladies' Singles with Laurie Bottomley following with a close 2nd. Mark Rice took first place in the Men's Singles. In the mixed doubles, Mark Rice and Sylvie Martin took 1st and Bruce and Laurie Bottomley placed third. Laurie, Sylvie, Bruce, and Mark placed in the top four in all the various final events and will now go on to the Provincial Finals in Toronto on April 14 & 15. Good luck to all! The wind-up for the Schreiber Dart League will be on Saturday, May 12. The ~ Figure Skating Schreiber Figure Skating Club held their closing show "The Wizard of Oz" on March 31st at the arena. the show. was a great SUCCESS. Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club performed "Happiness Is: for their final show. The colorful show was well attended. There will be a "Come and Go" _ shower in honour of Judy McBride on Sunday, April 22, from 2 - 4P.m. at St. Andrew's United Church.
